Johnston was able to mask the Pens defensive weaknesses. All the fans calling for them to "open it up" are going to see a team that gets exposed a lot.

Fleury has masked the Pens defensive weaknesses far more than Johnston. If the Pens were getting just even average goaltending Johnston wouldn't have made it out of October.

Not that I expect any facts to change your narrative, but it's getting old. Stumbling into the 8th seed last year and presently sitting outside of the playoffs...yeah, Johnston is a real world beater.

Sad times in Pitt. Just an absolute waste of Malkin and Crosby's prime years. Management is to blame for where they are now. Top heavy with nothing through the roster to compliment. Bringing in Kessel was a terrible move when they could have benefited from strengthening up the rest of the roster using that cap space. Blaming the coach is the easy way out but the issues go much deeper.

And where did that get us? 9th place? And a 8th place finish last year...might wanna check the standings before making ridiculous statements about wanting sids point totals more than winning even though the pens are losing.....lol.

Why don't you blame the roster construction or god forbid the Captain? Isn't that why he wears the C?

How many coaches has Kessel had?

Not agreeing with anyone's argument just curious

Well, he played for a complete dumpster fire of an organization before being traded to a team in the midst of discovering their coaching hire isn't working. It's irrelevant.

Toronto fans need to stop the baseless persecution of Kessel. It's like jealous ex syndrome.

Hey look, someone who has no clue what the issues are with the Pens.

The Pens are very well set at forward and on D. Their depth is fantastic and they're like 3 or 4 deep in NHL goalies. Their issue is D, and that is mainly due to Letang's horrid start to this year. If he were playing to his normal level, we'd only be down 1 top-4 D.

The roster construction is a fair point, the Pens are extremely weak on defense. That weakness shouldn't make them a bottom-5 offensive team. Blaming Crosby is so hilariously offbase, but I'm not even a little surprised you said that.

Just stop. No one is saying the Pens roster doesn't have it's holes but you acting like MJ was a good coach is embarrassing.

I think he did the best with what he had and he doesn't deserve to have his reputation besmirched because Crosby isn't producing like he normally does. What happened to personal accountability?

Johnston seems like a good man and I wish him the best. Losing your job right around the holidays is pretty devastating.

Rutherford has even stated that he is partly to blame for the Pens' struggles because he hasn't been able to provide the team with a good enough group of defensemen.

I mean... when you've got 25-year-old 5'9" 170lbs David Warsofsky with 15 games in NHL experience playing 25+ minutes on your top pairing...

because we don't have a Seabrook in the line-up to sit the captain down and calm him...

Difference is Toews responded and lead the Hawks to a miraculous comeback. When the Pens get in that situation their modus operandi has been to start taking cheap shots and fold. Big difference in leadership between the two imo and that's been the biggest difference over the years.

so essentially what you're saying is that the Hawks should strip Toews off of his C and give it to Seabrook?
