Why would a rebuilding team with no reliable starter trade a promising 22 year old goalie?

That's what rebuilding teams need, not what they're looking to deal.

Nevermind that Askarov publicly asked for a trade, which affects value.
Why would most teams pay for Blomqvist a high price of a 1st round prospect + top 15ish (early 1st) 1st when he has no established period of strong play

Way too risky for a team to pay that much for an unproven goalie.

Pens should just keep Blomqvist. He is very young so if he is the real deal in 4-5 years when they should be done their rebuild and he will only be 26/27 at the time.

Askarov is a better prospect goalie with higher pedigree and potential and he didnt get that offer you mentioned

Got a 1st round prospect (B+ prospect) + VGKs 2025 1st which will be a late 20s pick

I cant see Blomqvist getting an early 1st rounder back (10-15 range) unless its a thrown in prospect only

Which is why they will keep him.

Yeah, no Penguins fan is saying we should trade Blomqvist.

You literally answered your own question.

It would be stupid to trade your goalie of the future at the start of a rebuild. Thus, it would take an overpayment to get him. It is unlikely any team would be willing to overpay for said goalie. Therefore, the Penguins will just keep him.

Yeah you have to overpay for players that aren't available.

Great so just to confirm:

#1 - Blomqvist is not worth a lottery pick

#2 - Penguins other goalie is Jarry so they cannot afford to trade Blomqvist without an overpayment

Therefore Blomqvist will not get traded.

Who are you arguing with?

I don't see any Pens fans wanting to trade Blomqvist.

So the available ones aren't the best ones? They need a tear down from top to bottom and could get a heck of a lot for Sid, Geno and Letang.

While I'd be happy with Pettersson, my preference is someone signed beyond this season if only because we need a serious long term fit and I don't know if we'll be able to afford keeping him. Matheson is my preferred target, albeit only if Montreal retains for that very reason.

Would definitely like Eller though.

People will still ask to trade for Crosby and Malkin even after they retired.

If there were term left on Petterssons deal I'd say I owuld be interested as a Wings fan. We could probably outbid most buyers as well.

Not worth breaking up the longest tenured trio in team sports history.

Even if they did waive their NMCs. Which they wouldn't.

My mind can't comprehend a deadline buyer needing both a Matheson and/or a Pettersson.

We don't need both but either would be a significant improvement to our middle pair. The only reason I'd be interested in Matheson over Pettersson though is the potential for Montreal to retain. Matheson signed for an additional year under 3M would be fantastic to help offset the OEL buyout.
