I’m not well versed with how protected picks work.

Wouldn’t we want the Rangers to finish 14th this year? I see others want it to go to next year when they could end up much better than 14th. (Would bet on them being better than worse)

This sub is strange,

We can't trade everyone or else we will never be able to hit the cap floor.... we still need to fill out a roster of players. We need to get younger, we need prospects and draft picks, we need to preserve the core and make sure we get them to the playoffs , we need to sell off everything and tear it down.

This trade literally covers everything but the core and playoffs playoffs part which I think most who say that are in jest, I hope anyways,

How can this be perceived by anyone as other than a win? The 1st, a 3rd round Prospect, 2 contracts that are easy to bury or sit for AHL players, getting rid of competent players, who were very inconsistent this season, that may walk at the end of the season for nothing.

I shit on them a lot, but I really hope Doc and Pettersson turn it around for Vancouver and contribute enough to make that a win for them as well. Really like the Canucks, the fan base is insanely fun and chaotic.

keep in mind these contracts coming in won't matter on a team like ours due to the cap going up almost 8 million next year, and potentially 3 retention spots if Dubas doesn't use one by the deadline.
Hear hear. I struggle to see how this is perceived as anything other than a huge W.

2026 is generally regarded as a far better and deeper draft, so we can probably look at this as a win-win situation. If the Rangers don't go into the tank this season, we have two firsts this year. If they do, we will have two next year.

Would you rather have Danton Heinen playing in place of Drew O'Connor, or would you rather have Rutger McGroarty or Ville Koivunen? Also, would you rather have Vincent Desharnais playing in place of Marcus Pettersson or would you rather have Owen Pickering?

The simple and easy answer would be both, of course. Waive Nieto and Shea, recall one of the wingers and Pickering and presto...everybody wins. Except we don't do simple and we don't do logical.

This team does not have to be as bad as they are. We make it hard on ourselves needlessly.

I'm mostly thrilled that we got a first round pick back for MP, and separately I placed tremendously little value on DOC. This trade doesn't preclude us from having a McGroarty, Koivunen or Pickering circling into the lineup.

You are aware the Penguins had Heinen in the past, correct? And we specifically saw him getting healthy scratched for like a quarter of the season and only playing 10 minutes a night?

Sullivan doesn't like Heinen, or he at least didn't like Heinen in his last season here. If Sullivan is playing Heinen over any young guy, it's really not good for the young guy because Sullivan doesn't like Heinen.
Maybe that was the case but my eyes are still burning from seeing him stapled to Geno's hip and some posters justify Heinens advanced stats that he deserved it.

I tend to only remember the bad and the Stick-to-itiveness of Heinen.

It's a name I didn't want to ever see here again......love the 1st coming back.

OC is a 4th liner, fill in 3rd liner at best.

A first and a prospect to boost the pool. Solid deal. You need a lot of 2nd and 3rd lottery tickets in there as well.

People can hate on dubas for the summer of 2023 but since pivoting last year with Jake he has been solid average. Hopefully he can do some more before the deadline.

Yeah, some people's memories are a little foggy. Heinen was not a Sully favorite.

I'm not a big fan of Heinen, but if it's a choice between Heinen and O'Connor, I take Heinen 100 times out of 100.

Ya Heinen may not have the speed and size of O'Connor but O'Connor really uses them effectively. Heinen is a better depth scorer.

Its whatever in terms of cap. They have a lot of space and flexibility. I wouldn't resign glass at this point unless he takes a pay cut.
