Ah, so Slater is the new whipping boy around here.

Pretty baseless in my opinion. He may not be the same Jim Slater he was a couple years ago but he is still effective on the PK, face off guys, and 4th line player.

Yes they were.

Not only are we in a playoff position , but poised to make make it as well , and the players realize that would not be if Chevy had not done what he did . Plain and simple.

That goes a long way to the trust players have for an organization , now we just need to lock up a couple pending UFA's .

Wouldn't it be great to have one announcement in the next week or so ? :)

Totally agreed. It was a smart move.

One of the biggest decisions of a GM has to be when to "throw the switch", and Chevy picked a great year to do so. Although amazingly, he did so without harming the future of the organization. I agree, it looks like it might pay off with both our first taste of playoff hockey, and a whole lot of goodwill from the team.

Putting more focus into my Jets YT channel lately. Here's full highlights of the game along with some nice offensive/defensive plays.

yeah I don't understand the need for a whipping boy in 3-0 shutout win but I digress.

I don't want a "4th line". I want a "3B" line that can be trusted with 10 or 12 minutes a night, so that our top lines aren't winded at the end of the game.

Wow, what a game, and what a run they are on... one coming at just the right time.

I thought Schief started a bit slow and then he just got progressively better as the game wore on. That whole line was great again, but when Scheif gets his feet moving and starts dancing he is difficult for the opposition to contain.

That win deserves a full rating of 9 Rad Jets Guys out of 9....

Jim had a very good season in the Jets first year, even scored 13 goals! He has scored a grand total of 4 goals since that inaugural season. I was a big fan of his, but clearly the "best before" date is long gone.

Stafford being a 60 point guy is pretty realistic I'd think.

Let's not get too carried away. Stafford has not had anywhere near 60 points in his career and he'll be 30 yrs old next season.
If he were re-signed by the Jets and was a solid, two-way, 45-55 point guy for 3 seasons, that would be a huge return on his piece of the trade.

I'm thinking 15g 25a or so myself and have Kane pegged at 30g 30a; he'll get every opportunity to be the offensive juggernaut that he never got on Winnipeg. If nothing more than the increased playing time, he should get a good year.

Kane averaged 18-20 minutes a game for us, he isn't getting much if anymore ice time in Buffalo. He may get to play with a high end playmaking center in Rhenihert or a Echiel, McDavid but he got to play with a pretty good young one in Scheifele and it didn't really make a difference. I fully expect he'll remain what he has always been and that is a good ES scorer who predominantly does it himself 50-55 points if healthy.

Moments after we blew the tie in Florida if you told me we would go into Tampa and win (with Toby in the infirmary and Trouba out) then come home and beat SJ, ST L, and the Caps I would have said you are nuts. The 8 point run has put us in the drivers seat now.

Great to have two options in net. We all get Pavs but nobody has ever said he doesn't get hot and my lord has he picked the perfect time to go on a Run. Rough goaltending since the all star break up until Tampa then boom goes the dynamite and we get a critical run.

Thrilled about this result tonight.

kept checking my phone during disney on ice. wasnt sure what was more awesome: my little cousins amazement at watching olaf skate around or seeing the jets go up 3-0 on my score app.

-im thrilled at the position were in, and with healthy bodies due to come back.
-beware edmonton. theyre playing well lately and this will be a trap game coming off an emotional win
-if pavelec plays this way, im ok with him being back next year with helley or hutch challenging him and keeping him honest... playoffs are more important to me than him leaving town
-scheifele is playing and maturing very well. thanks for the recommendation dale
-mts centre sounded electric. good job winnipeg

Plays on the PK because someone has to, he's there to eat minutes there not because he is especially good at it, face off's are not usually against the oppositions top guys, his % higher because of that, he is not an effective 4th line player, his minutes are low 5v5 because of that. Jim's here because of his contract, nothing more and nothing less. He won't be offered another contract by the Jets.

The only knock on Slater for me is that he's playing on the 3rd line when he should be on the 4th. I'd put O'Dell on the 3rd until Little is back, but I would keep Slater on the 4th when Little is back just due to his face offs. If Slater did nothing but take a face off in the d-zone and head right to the bench, I'd be happy with that.

Don't forget that Myers was out that game, as well (in addition to Buff, Little and Perreault.) I was at that Tampa game--it was packed with Jets fans and the arena was, as they like to say in Tampa, electric . Postma and a possibly-concussed Toby kept us in the game, against all odds, until Wheeler's heroics won it. That was a pivotal game, for sure.
The subsequent wins against SJ and St L were great, but tonight was the game that sealed the deal, IMO. Against a team that had not only been our kryptonite, but seemed to exist for the express purpose of showing the Jets were not playoff-worthy, we showed we are a different team this year.

Pavs played a great game pure and simple and there should be no qualifiers on his game tonight.

He can't do better than stopping all the shots. Well, not unless he scores the winning goal. Damn Pav, can't score! :sarcasm:

He still gave up a few rebounds but I thought it was within the range of normal for a good goalie. Didn't actually count them but well below his normal.

So, does Pav get the Oil or the 'Nucks? Or ....... both?

why? on average that's like an extra faceoff win or 2 per game where a win doesn't even guarantee possession (especially when it's Jim Slater on the ice)
