What Mintyukov is doing as a rookie Dman is amazing and even more so when compared to his draft class. Look at what #1 overall 2022 pick Slafkovsky has done this year: 1 point in 10 games but also only 11 points in 49 career games. Mintyukov is gonna pass Slafkovsky in career points this season.

LaCombe is only with Fowler because Drysdale is injured. I guess they are the top pair because they both kill penalties and play the most minutes. But they haven't been the best pair. I would prefer LaCombe on a pairing where his offense could shine. I do like the idea of rotating guys out when Drysdale returns.

Wow. Devalue LaCombe's stock and forget that we did try Luneau and Vaaks on the top line. LaCombe plays on the PK2 unit, which doesn't often get the bulk of the PK TOI. Minchy is on the PP1 unit, getting the bulk of the PP minutes.

Then you add the qualifier of "they haven't been the best pair" when I'm talking about how we don't have to run the same "strength mgmt" program like Carlsson.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he does it during this home stand. Probably against the sharks lol.

Not devaluing LaCombe by pointing out the fact that he was with Gudas and Drysdale was with Fowler until the injury.

LaCombe with Gudas was our 2nd line. Minty with Lyubushkin was our 3rd line. Let's deal with facts then.

It's LaCombe promoted on the top line with Fowler, not Minchy. Let's just deal with facts....

You did hint that Lyubushkin is shit with Minchy, but then turn around and say LaCombe needs someone who can accentuate his offense.

Never said one word about Lybushkin, you made that up. I didn't say that LaCombe "needed" someone to accentuate his offense, I said I wish he was playing at a spot in the lineup where that could happen more. Your need to prop up LaCombe is clouding your judgement. BTW, he's good, doesn't need a PR rep.

I only caught the third period tonight, but he was absolutely dominating, the level of confidence he’s got when playing the puck at the point is the most noticeable thing
I love the fact that he doesn’t fear anyone… he’s not gunna let anyone treat him like a rookie.

Stood up for killorn tonight, has done that on a few occasions this year… he’s exactly the type of culture boost we need on the back end

Jets fan dropping by because this kid seems like a bit of a sneaky home run pick. I like to go back and deconstruct draft lists from 2022 to see who got this right. Any of you that are fellow draft junkies I went back to look at the 2022 Black Book (Hockey Prospects) to see how Mark and his team had Mintyukov ranked and they were getting roasted by fellow scouts because they had him at #5 OA ahead of Nemec. Its funny to see how the other scouts were chirping his team for “being drunk” because they had Pavel in the top 5.

I don’t work for Hockey Prospects but the Black Book is a great resource for those that are too into the draft.

I have only watched highlights of him so far, where do they have Mintyukov slotted right now? How is his defensive game. Congrats on what appears to be a home run from the #10 slot. Reminds me of 2018 when mind numbingly Noah Dobson dropped to #12 when it was obvious he was going to be a stud.

Mintyukov got slept on in his draft year for a couple reasons (I remember watching stuff on him and really wondering why he wasn’t in the jiricek/nemec tier)
- people thought he sucked defensively because he came from a Saginaw system where he was essentially a 4th forward and playing high risk was part of the game plan.
- Russia wasn’t in the world juniors, so he never got a chance to show he could actually play system defense prior to draft.

He is basically 2nd pairing dmen, playing lybushkin …. But he’s on the top power play unit, limited time on PK.

He is solid defensively, can still def improve tho…. He uses his body well for a 19 year old, has a bit of a mean streak in him…. Hits a lot more than I thought he would and is constantly involved in skirmishes and defending his teammates.

He is very quick to turn up ice, if the other team makes a bad dump in, or turn over…. He’s def pushing the play.

The biggest flaw he’s has for me so far is that he seems to occasionally get stuck out for long shifts and I’d say he doesn’t shoot enough.

For a 19 year old dmen, you can’t really ask for more than he’s giving us right now tho, I think he’s prob surpassing everyone’s expectations for him right now, outside of that sharks fan that’s been calling him the next makar

He plays second or third pair with Lyubushkin and he gets 1st (and sometimes 2nd) unit PP time. His defensive game is surprisingly very good. Not just very good for a rookie but very good. He's very aggressive offensively but he has a knack for breaking up plays and dislodging pucks. It's super early and we'll have to see how it shakes out but to me, this is a kid with a Scott Niedermayer ceiling, excellent on both sides of the puck. Who knows. Also, his offensive role might diminish once Drysdale returns. If he returns.

Can we sit him a couple games? I'm going on a work trip to a betting-friendly state next week and was going to place a bet on him to win the Calder.. His odds have already dropped from +4000 to +2000 since last game

I’d say this is a good assessment, right down to his two biggest flaws right now.

I think the same thing can be said for most of our young prospects. Those TOI timers seem to light up red with alot of their names to start the season.

I always had high hopes for this kid and man hes been fun to watch. If he keeps up this progress I could see him getting Fowler-like ice time at the end of year. The fact that hes 1 point up on Fowler right now is an awesome start.

Hes not getting the hard minutes yet, still protecting him a bit, but the ability is there.

I hope he ends up being our next true #1, but worst case I think we have a solid 2/3 guy.

Everyone realizes that this chart says that Vaakanainen is our best defensive defenseman, and Mintyukov is our second worst, right?

Far too early in the season for this chart to mean much.
I mean it is a fact that the Vaak-Gudas pairing has done an excellent job not giving much up. And Minty-Lyubushkin has had some tougher matchups (I could be making that up). So that combined with Minty’s propensity for jumping up in the play makes the results on that chart make sense.
