Patriots/NFL Patriots hiring Mike Vrabel, a franchise Hall of Famer, as head coach

Maybe but I think most can handle a necessary, proper rebuild. What people rightfully can't accept is the complete dysfunctional incompetence we have seen since Tom Brady bolted.
And I’m pretty sure I addressed the “complete dysfunctional incompetence” part in my post above what you quoted.

Bill Belichick is the GOAT coach imo, but the amount of control he exerted over the franchise for 20+ years is no longer sustainable in the modern NFL.

I think the lack of infrastructure and support (due to BB wanting control) hurt the Patriots in the scouting, drafting, coaching and pro personnel areas. Brady masked some of that stuff, but when he left it became more apparent.

Right now the Pats are a mess. I think Vrabel is a good start to begin building the culture, but they have a lot of work to do.

Except it was Belichick, not Kraft that was responsible for doing this stuff. Under Bill, the Pats typically had one of the smaller staffs in the NFL. The rumor was that he was given X amount for the coaching staff salaries and any extra went back to him.

Unsure if that is true or it was just BB’s dislike of coaches outside his circle of trust? Either way, he was the one that brought Patricia and Judge back while they were still being paid by other organizations. Followed that up by not giving them titles (so they retained their HC salaries) and assigning them to positions they had no experience coaching.
So Kraft hiring Mayo as HC had nothing to do with avoiding paying him his buyout clause? So the patriots player and family facilities being rated amongst the worst 3 in the NFL had nothing to do with the Krafts? The fact that the Patriots have been amongst the lowest spending teams overall in the league has nothing to do with the Krafts.. it was all Belichick? News to me, thanks for enlightening me.

IMO some of BB's biggest successes became his Achillies heel ---- turning Stephen Neal into a legitimate, effective OL. Drafting Brady in round 6 and seeing him become the best ever, frequently taking guys off the scrap heap and seeing them become all-pro level players (Vrabel for example).

I think these often gave him the idea that he could do it far more often than one could reasonably expect.

He knew to wear the pin.

Something about these photos always makes me laugh. The realization that this is the pinnacle of a lot of these coaches' tenures.

There's just one thing I don't enjoy with the post Belichick collaborative approach. Giardi asked if Vrabel has control of roster and he didn't really say. Why is it so difficult for this organization just to say who has final say on roster decisions?

I have to say, the difference in press conferences from Mayo to Vrabel is drastic.

Mayo spent his introductory press conference joking around and giving half answers.

Vrabel? All business.

I think that goes a long way.

Will it work out? Hopefully. But I have far more faith in Vrabel turning this around and having the team PREPARED and playing hard, even if the talent still isn't there.

Vrabel is very well spoken and has a clear path / plan for the Pats, which is great.
Great signing.
Hopefully he surrounds himself with a staff that can identify talent at the draft.
We need to hit on at least 4 players this year, more would be better.
We have the QB, some decent players on dee.
Spend our cap space wisely.
Key dates - March 10 - UFA's can be signed.
April 24 - NFL draft.
We will have a much clearer picture just prior to the draft what positions we will be drafting for in the top rounds based on the UFA's we sign.

The amount of times Mayo called Robert Kraft ‘Thunder’ in his introductory press conference was so cringey. Night and day difference between Mayo and Vrabel in terms of how they’re able to communicate.

I’m ecstatic they chose Vrabel over Johnson.

I think you guys will be happy with Vrabel. He's a players coach who can motivate guys and has a track record of being able to do more with less.

Look at the rosters he had to work with in Tennessee and look at the results he got. Dude only lost his job because he lost a power struggle to a dimwit GM who proceeded to send that team right into the shitter

Im very optimistic now with Vrabel taking the helm.

Very interested to see who he picks for OC/DC.

One thing I want is STABILITY for Drake Maye. And Vrabel touched on that in his conference "Put great people around him."

They should have and could have made this hire a year ago. If you were never going to give a first time HC a legit chance then they should have hired Vrabel last year.

I like Vrabel because he's the perfect mixture of insider/outsider. He played here, knows the franchise, the culture, the local media, etc. But he learned his coaching elsewhere and brings different ideas and ways of doing things. He's also very professional and well-respected around the league. I think it's a big step forward for the franchise and the first step to clearing the toxic cloud that's been floating here since 2019.

I think Pop and Boutte will do fine as #2 and #3 options next year. Bourne as your #4. Get a #1 and with even an average offensive line, and with McDaniels playcalling, Maye should have an awesome year.

Defense needs a lot of work. I worry about that more than the offense.

Brushsci actually making a good point tbf. Will link it

Collaboration is very important. So are defined roles. The issues is when you have an owner who doesn’t spend and a GM who had a terrible draft outside of Drake Maye, it ruins the collaboration.

Mayo wasn’t the right guy in any regard. However that doesn’t mean they should throw away collaboration because it didn’t work with a rookie QB.

None of this will ever work if for the next 8 years the Patriots are last in spending like the previous 8 years.

He also was in the worst division in the NFL for his entire 6 year tenure.

The top 2 QBs in his division that he went up against was 1 year of Andrew luck and 1 year of late 30s Phillip rivers.

Still only managed a 54-45 record.
