Speculation: Patrik Laine

Laine's wife seem to be really content with the money rolling in and posting on social media, he does too. He'll sign for whoever opens the wallet the most. If it's a question of him playing for a cup contender and winning a cup on a 1 year low salary "prove it" deal and proving he can still play. Or going to a bad team to make millions with term, I'd be shocked if he doesn't take the money now. Just seems to be their MO as a couple.

Typical Habs fan response.

While he hasn't won a cup (or been to a conf final - which are dependant on team success btw)

He has 2 rockets, an olympic gold medal (was C), and is pacing to be the best pure scorer since Ovi..

I guess Caufield, Hutson, Dobson, and others havent lived up to expectations either right?
He won two playoff rounds in ten years pal. Huge disappointment. The Leafs are in a rebuild now, his window is over... Not that he's gonna stay. He's gonna hightail it out of Toronto the first chance he has.

She seems more interested in whatever brand deal she can leverage and plaster her face everywhere.

She also likes to give “big sister talks” with advice from her life like “even though I didn’t get the job, it worked out because I met Patty”

Just marry a millionaire ladies.

I doubt its a choice. Legitimately, what cup contender would have Laine in their lineup, regardless of cap hit?

Jets would, if I was them, take Laine if the Habs paid us to take him enough of a pick or a prospect, but I wouldn’t pay anything for Laine or resign him, in the end I wouldn’t want him on the team past this season. Jets have lots of cap space, don’t need retention either. Habs don’t need to trade him, it’s only if they want to free up the money or more so cap space or a roster spot.
No thanx…no reason for WPG to bring Laine back

I think Florida and Paul Maurice could take a flyer on him. He idolizes Barkov, all it takes is one positive influence and maybe Laine's skillset fits the team.

Florida actually could make sense, if they keep deploying their lines like they have past few years when Barkov has been available, the 2nd line starts rarely in the d-zone and 1st and 3rd line take the tough matchups when possible and he might score a lot of goals assisted by Tkachuk. It could be good spot to get most out of him.

How'd that go would depend a lot on Laine though, I don't think anyone knows how well he can play NHL hockey at this point. Other than on the PP, his stint at Montreal wasn't that promising but he was also injured a lot (again...) and who knows how good or bad he would've looked post surgery. It's odd they didn't even give him a look, which worse case might be pretty damning on Laine's current shape.

If he's back to 21-22 / 22-23 form and can score on the PP anything like he did with Montreal or Winnipeg, his next deal might be one of the best values in league, I would imagine it's going to be cheap and short.

Not sure how big fan Maurice would be about signing Laine. I mean they were in Winnipeg. Laine then publicly in Finnish paper complained about his deployment and that became public. Maurice had to answer to those questions. Also the trade happened when Maurice was still there.

I mean who knows. But their time together wasn´t all roses. And I remember that many biggest Laine supporters did see Maurice as the problem why Laine did not succeed.

Maurice already asked Laine to play a little defense and Laine said no, only ripping clappers matter to him. Maurice won’t be taking him.

Couldn't agree more. The Jets re-signing Laine is a sequel that nobody wants to see...

The worst powerplays in the league were the Flyers, Flames, and Islanders. I'll throw in the Blackhawks too. A bonus heavy one year contract to either of those teams would be a smart move.

I'd pass on him at any price, regardless of the team.

His head never seems to be in the right place, which hardly is a good thing for the locker room.
And his bad positioning on the ice makes him exceptionally injury prone, so you're paying for half a season at best, which doesn't include the playoffs.

Calgary, Chicago and Vancouver were the bottom teams in scoring this season. I bet they could do with a cheap PP boost for 1 year minimum contract. They have tons of cap space too (21, 40 and 22).

They are in the opposite conference as well.
