Habs brass needs to determine if Laine is reliable. If he's not, just ride out the contract and be happy you had him. We can also enjoy the 2nd round pick we got along with him.
Absolutely. I can say in most workplaces, but particularly mine reliability and resiliency are qualities that are under valued when hiring or promoting individuals. It can really mess things up having a team mate who lacks in both areas. We need to be careful, regardless of how fricking awesome this guy is when he is available.

Yep! Also, if we sign him for a long time, that cap space wasted is goin to hurt a lot. I think we have gotten used to not having to worry about cap space, but we have Demidov and Hutson to sign in the near future, and they will not be cheap. We also do not have a 1RD yet, and that will be pricey. This is why I said previously I don't see Laine in our future plans. I like the player a lot, though.

Think about it this way instead...
* Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Guhle = $29M
* Laine, Demidov, Hutson (new deals) = What? $30M?
(7 core parts locked up for around $60M)

There is around $40M tied up with Gallagher, Anderson, Price, Dvorak, Armia, Matheson.

Habs have more cap space than you might think. Lots of ELC contracts and bridge deals will filter in our roster at the same time the gap will be growing. Demidov won't need a contract extension until 28/29 bud. Cap will be $100M by then.

We need a 2C and a 1RD. We have the goalies to sign. I see your point, though. We have some nice contracts. Alright... Sign Laine long-term. :)

It's tricky to track forward but there is lots of cap space that will be free up for us at the same time we will have ELC/Bridge deals and a growing cap.

There is room for Laine, Hutson, Demidov extensions and also for a 2C/RD. However, It might affect some parts after the core in 3-5 years when guys like Roy, Beck, Kapanen, Reinbacher, Hage, Mailloux etc need longer deals. But that's what the bridge is for and if you loose 1 or 2 secondary parts because you have to keep the core in place, so be it.

I really like how the overlap might play out. ELC with a growing cap and most of our core on value contracts. It's very important we don't rush guys and start their RFA clock early IMO.

I guess we need to also look at the versatility of Laine as well. If we have Suzuki, Slaf, Cole, Demidov and Hutson already on the team, which should give us a very strong PP1 even without Laine, do we need him? Do we target another type of player instead that makes us more complete? Anyways, that's up to management. I am cool with whatever,

Call me gullible but I love snipers. Look at team Canada at the world juniors.... couldn't pick a corner and lacked shooters/snipers.

As long as Laine is open to a fair deal, he should stay. You don't let go a shooting talent like this easily. I'd rather keep Laine over Dach bud

Dach isn't in thr equation. I stated Suzuki, Slaf, Cole, Demidov and Hutson on PP1. I think Demidov and Cole have pretty good shots, bud.

Demidov has not really shown ability to snip from outside the hash marks though. He has an OK shot but most of his goals are coming from inside the hash marks.

Laine is a keeper for me. As long as he don't ask for $12M x 8.
6x $9M is manageable and we can fit that in.

I can agree they will make it work if they decide to keep him or he decides he wants to stay.

Demidov scores from translatable areas on the ice, yes. His shot is much better than OK. He has a bullet. He prefers not to shoot from outside of the circles because he can make better plays than that.

Very good shot. I see a 30-40 goal scorer in him.

He will always make more assists, but he is going to score a lot in this league, like Kaprizov did, he score 40 goals + per season.
