Do you have a replacement we're not aware of..?
Cost too much?
We are already paying him 8.7M lol

If anything we can probably sign him for less lol
And also, you gotta think of it from The Bosses perspectives too
You don't just MAKE a trade like that, and then oh ho hum you're a free agent next year? ok bye!
We have Demidov on the way, and I think someone else will pay Laine more than $8.7 mil. A trade like that? We got him for practically nothing, buddy.

Yeah?
Then why make the trade at all in the first place..?

And you want the 6foot Left Shooting Demidov to replace the 6"5 Right Shooting Laine but not the 6foot Left Shooting Newhook?
Odd.
The trade matches the term. And when I said replacement, it was about skill and cap space. We have Hutson and Demidov to sign down the line, and we still need a 1RD.

If we can sign Laine for a good cap hit, then great. This is just a feeling I have, and if he leaves, I think we will be just fine. I didn't say I didn't want him to stay here, friend.

Fair enough, friend

I still think we're a better team with him than without him tho

Hockey Mecca
Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Demidov - Petterson - Laine

is a STACKED top 6
A top 6 that could go against any top 6 in the league
If we can do it, we must do it

Petterson is soft and often uninvolved. I watched a lot of Nucks games in the playoffs and wasn't worth anywhere close to what he's getting.. and at 11.75 per year, he's just not worth it.

Petterson can be whipped into shape by good leadership, and we have it

I'd pay good picks and prospects to get him

Laine's win streak is now 6 games. I conveniently left out the Columbus-game as he played only one period (and I know that some say he may have unintentionally partly caused that loss due to his comments).

But its crazy, the team feels somehow different when Patty is not playing. I watched only 1st period yesterday but we felt much more "rushed" in our game, Patty slows down the game (some say due to him being slow), and that is needed against teams like Chicago imo.

Why was Laine a healthy scratch against Chicago? Did he say something about the coach or management and got punished?

Someone said that he sneezed in the dressing room just before going on the ice. So they scratched him as a precaution.

Btw Mulletman.. I have secretly admired you for over 10 years, ever since you started posting threads on very interesting subjects.

So I finally posted my first ever thread. I hope I have learned something from you.

I was 150k off, old age & bad memory

He's at 11.6 per with 7 more seasons to go

He's the new Huberdeau. Do NOT want.

Duuude
Sorry man, the original thread title was "Longest win-streaks for individual players". And Laine was not mentioned in the op. But I feared it wouldnt get any clicks.. so with it being my first ever thread I gave that title and made it basically all about Laine. And clicks came!

But.. now I feel like it is something that paints Laine fans (and Montreal fans (and me)) in a bad light.. My bad! 😓

It will be interesting to see what we do with the PP when Demidov is here. Who gets kicked off the first unit?

I don't think he's going to get on the first PP at least to start with.

Petterson can be whipped into shape by good leadership, and we have it

I'd pay good picks and prospects to get him

It would be concerning if your top ticket needs others to whip him into shape.

I know people will disagree with me but what good is Suzuki if he's not a primary distributor? Hutson and Demidov are going to be the primary distributors, you have to put Demidov on a half-wall. You could put Caufield to PP2 and keep Suzuki in PP1 but then yes you have Dach running PP2 but Dach isn't really doing well with that now because he is still not posing himself as a shot threat.

If your second unit is Mailloux-Suzuki-Dach-Newhook-Heineman you've got Suzuki and Dach who can run the powerplay from different spots, and three absolute bombs.
I wouldn't mind that.

Or we rock a 1-3-1 with hutson up top, Laine, Demidov on half walls and Suzuki in the middle. Slaf down low in bumper. Suzuki could be used as a secondary distributor to make that additional play if needed, OR be used as another scoring threat like Point in TBL PP when they had stamkos.

That also allows CC to be more impactful on the 2nd wave with Dach.

Obviously a series of unfortunate events thus far in his Habs career. The injury to start....the minor injury in the Columbus game. The sick time for the past two. Given his history with injury/mental troubles....I hope these are all just coincidences.

Long term I want this guy. I'd sign him for 8 years. But....you gotta think that the amount of games lost hurts his bottom dollar on his next contract. Still lots of games left....but it puts the team in a position to argue for far less than what he is worth when he is actually playing. I'm swinging for something in line with Suzukis cap ceiling.

We are going to need money for Demi and Hutson very soon.
