I came here looking for some intel as to why he left the game yesterday…read the last two pages…and WTF?? 😵‍💫😵‍💫
He got banged up by all the targeting and the team decided to keep him out of the game since some Jackets were on a mission to injure him.

If portzline took that quote out of context, then he's a jerkoff too. I know he's been pretty outspoken about Laine in the past too.
Portzline was blaming Laine in an article last summer for some of the players CJB traded away, including players traded before Laine joined the team or not even a month after that trade.

Every player can’t be cookie cutter boring. Laine is excentric. He says what’s on his mind. He won’t only make friends. But he also happens to score bucketloads of PP goals. If the dressing room is strong enough, we can absolutely win with a player like that.
Not if he's hiding in the locker room

I would just say there is a time and a place for those comments.

Calling your former team that just lost their star player to a tragedy a bunch of losers is obviously not going to sit well with them, and not really a cool thing to do in general.

Laine talked shit and got hit, but hey, that's sports! We're talking about it because it's an exciting storyline, even if we got the worst of it.
Given their difficult history together, I can only speculate that Werenski and Laine were still not the best of friends. I don’t think he needed any extra motivation to play hard against him.

Werenski was clearly pretty pissed off by Laine's comments, just watch his post game interview

He also implied that Laine wasn't hurt and just bowed out of the game

I don't think he said anything disrepectful. He called his former team losers, big woop. Lots of former Habs have criticized this franchise and nothing happened really. It was all forgotten. He should of gave a more diplomatic answer, but it just shows that he didn't fit there. They didn't like him and a change of scenery was necessary. Almost everyone has had a job where someone didn't like them and got fired or left out of spite.

Monahan and Harris are now playing for that organization. It's just business. Unfortunately, he got injured again, which tells us he is made out of glass, which is unfortunate. Yes, the Jackets were going at him, but the Habs have no physicality to their game. The bottom 6 needs serious revamping.

Anyways, it is apparent that re-signing Laine long-term is a risky endeavour. Slaf's signing to the Suzuki special is proving to be a costly mistake.

Ouff, big woop Werenski. It's hockey, not boxing. Some people are in the wrong business. The league over the years is promoting talent over goons and we are heading in the right direction. It's just words, nothing more. Hopefully, Laine is all right. Next game, Werenski will likely get the royal treatment too by the Habs.

This is a masterclass on sarcasm if I ever saw one.

Well done, sir.

I’m not excusing that Laine has his quirks, but this is BS. It’s accepted history that Werenski was part of the group that asked Jarmo to trade Laine because they didn’t like him. #settingtherecordstraight
Sounds like Laine was talking about Zach specifically. In which case, puts werenskis indignation into context. On the other hand, don't know what actually happened only that Laine's mental health issues were a contributing factor and that his comments shifted the conversation to something pettier as an explanation for needing to move on. Laine was probably already in bad shape and in need of help in Winnipeg and this carried over to Columbus. Its only been a couple of years since mental health discussion has been publicly distigmatized so there's that also. The likeliest explanation is that he didnt get the help he needed for a number of reasons unrelated to columbus tanking. Thats the only unfortunate fallout I see in this affair. I dont mind some trash talking. Its part of the fun.

Would you bow out if Xhekaj had your back? And even if Laine did, so what, really? He just got out of the NHL players assistance program and this is very heavy psychologically. We now know better than to execute shell shocked soldiers thinking it’s cowardice like in World War One.

"Hockey players are so vanilla. Always repeating the same boring answers. No personality."

*hockey player talks trash about a shit franchise, shows a personality*

"he should shut his mouth. Hockey players should show more class."

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Its a catch 22, speaking out will always be frowned upon whether it's from fans, players or hockey media because it's so uncommon so it sticks out and gives easy fodder for opposing fans and players.

I personally think it's a nothing-burger, he said what he said in a random December regular season game against bottom tier teams. Game is over, life goes on. The only thing that matters is whether he's healthy or not, not what he said.

He did all of this to himself.

The addiction to gaming, and running his mouth about how CJB sucks.

Hard to feel too sorry for someone like that.

Laine, time to man up, son.

It's weird, I watched the pre game interviews yesterday and they were asking how it feels to be back to Columbus to play and he was saying all the right things. A couple of times he was like "I don't wanna get into that too much" trying to avoid the detail. Not sure who kept digging and what the questions exactly were when he gave them too much and of course Porty would run with that because it's been his mission. That part wasn't on the canadiens pre-game footage.

He should have avoided the trap.

so posters live to stir it up on here
I barely post here anymore - the Slaf posters last year polluted the boards with endless, braindead posts. And they popped up again this year when he was struggling, so sure in their positions, ready to be embarrassed again.

Now its Rein vs Mich, and soon a steady stream of Laine bashing. Same 10 guys that have no original thoughts, a limited understanding of the game, and an excess of confidence. Incredibly boring.

Well that didn’t take long for fans to turn on him. From 7x8mm to pathetic loser in 24 hours.
I'm a bit surprised at the reaction this has generated within the fan base. Considering the stuff players in other leagues have said in similar situations (past player facing former team), Laine's not saying anything too radical. Laine was just being honest and frankly him getting injured and some questionable defensive breakdowns and goals were what made the big difference than his comments pre game.

I think Werenski's behaviour is inexcusable and shows an unprofessional like conduct on his part. Sure, your feelings got hurt but trying to intentionally injure your former teammate that you despise is gutless at best. Grow a pair and brush it off, that's what grown man do. It's not a boxing rink. Unfortunately, despite the league's best efforts to eliminate fighting in the game, old mindsets still endure and these situations still happen.

Anyways, it just confirms that Laine was an outcast. He spoke his mind and folded last night. That doesn't look good. I don't know what impact this will have on his mental state, now that the message around the league will portray him as a coward. However, if you want to be part of the elite, you must learn to face criticism and adversity regardless of your talent. It's every man for himself. I hope he comes back stronger next game. We can only root for him as fans because we haven't seen a player of this calibre since Kovy.

Thank you.

What is it with so many posters thinking trash talk and honest talk are both inherently immoral, and that all discussion should be sanitized in the extreme?
It’s completely fine, I’m not one of those hockey players should all be vanilla guys, I actually enjoy the intensity and animosity, but I would have enjoyed it 10x more if he backed it up instead of hiding.

No matter how you slice it it’s an embarrassing result for Laine. Talk shit, try throwing a big hit and take the worst of it, then sit out the final 2 periods as your new team loses.

Habs really didn’t trade for Laine to « man up » but to score lots of goal. He’s perfectly meeting the job requirements.

PS: CJB does suck. I’m quite surprised you weren’t aware.

LOL.. This board is something else sometimes.

What are you even going on about?

Did he speak with a bit of ego and bitterness, yeah big time yesterday. I don't think it was the smartest move on his behalf.

Hard to feel sorry?
His gaming?

Who cares.

He's been nothing but a solid pick up for us, and seems to be finding a home here. The reason we got him literally for nothing because of what happened in CBJ, clearly quite a sore spot for him. What happened yesterday, happened.. it shouldn't be excuse to start tearing him down.

Yes,

The league still hasn't managed to completely drain the testosterone filled antics out of the game.

Maybe in time...

He is doing a great job as our PP specialist,

Every time he shoots he scores or so it seems,

Reminds me of when we had Marc-Andre Bergeron
