Some people posted stuff about Barkov winning the "athlete of the year" in finnish sports awards as a first hockey player. What no one talks about is that Laine won a "courage" award for his speak and work for atheletes (and everyone else) mental health, had a good speech about it also for a huge audience.

His puck handling is a thing of beauty. Defenders clearly respect him and don't overcommit knowing they could be embarrassed. He's slowly starting to get up to speed.

In any case, what a steal that trade was. Complete robbery.
Honestly it’s a fair trade. Columbus is doing well without him. They got out of an 8m contract for a guy that asked to leave. They had to move him

Yes but not much after that. Easy to see how long injuries impact even the most talented.
One game does not tell the whole story

I know you're not completely down on them I just don't know why so many here has so many questions like what do people expect 100 point guy

Montreal hasn't had any stars for the last how many years up front

Yeah his skating is nowhere near as good as it once was. Like Dach it will take a while even if he didn't end up having surgery.
I'll summarize. He didn't play the last 12 games of the 2022/23 season (27 total), he only played 18 games in the 2023/24 season broken by concussion and 17 this season broken by flu. This has to be reflected not only in skating. You need patience like with Dach.

Yes and i'd assume it's easier to be patient with him when he's scoring PP goals at this rate.

Must say great teamwork by Laine and Matthews last night. Matthews taking a penalty so Laine could score on the powerplay and Laine fumbling the puck later on on the powerplay so that Matthews could score his first career shorthanded goal and avoiding the fate of Jean Beliveau.

Laine and Matthews has now combined for 601 goals in the NHL. With the 3rd pick Dubois also scoring another 153 goals their totals right now sit at 754 goals. The 2016 top 3 draft picks could go down as the highest goal scoring top 3 picks of all time, as they have a legit shot at 1500+ combined goals. And that's despite all the injuries, mental health setbacks, narcissism, greed, addiction, trouble with getting along with other team mates, soft play overalll and especially come playoff time and just lazy floating in general. Imagine if these 3 had their shit together and played hockey the right way. Now that would be scary...

I get a good chuckle out of these posts, never change :dunce:
Sometimes the stuff you read on these boards makes me think of Colin in What we do in the Shadows, who is an energy vampire  (great show BTW)

He's gotta stop trying to dangle 3 guys going 2mph, a lot of times last night he had a pass option to gain the zone and get appropriate numbers on attack and just turned it over easily

Indeed His line is contributing so it isn't anything like what Dach went through early on when he was just railroaded with nothing positive happening on his side of the ledger.

That's a Laine classic. I'm not sure he'll ever stop doing it because the 1 out of 100 times that it works, makes him go viral.

And Marty can't tell him anything or else he'll lock himself up in his basement to play vidiya games.
