The more I see Allvin speak with the dreaded Vancouver media the more I like the guy and believe in his work.

And the more I listen to Elias Pettersson talk with the dreaded Vancouver media, the more I hate the guy and lose faith in his work.

Regarding his post game, for example, and I know he was tired from the game, just lost and knew he had to face the media regarding JT...

...so first off the lights were way too bright. So I get the squinting and not paying attention but man, take charge for ONCE.

Tell those reporters you understand the gravity of this situation, tell them all to back off you and then give them what they want, damnit!

Crack your knuckles. Get a foot away from the onlyfans lights, and take some responsibility.

I feel like no other Canuck in our history could make time stop in a post game scrum, dressing room wide, if he just said "OK LOOK GUYS".

Boom.

"OMG hes about to take control." Every Jpat would flock.

He could follow it up with "ok guys I like icecream" and we still see more pulse and have more material to write about from the horses mouth than ever.

Instead hes cornered into the "more pressure" question, and in Elias Pettersson fashion we get the most meek "I want it" ive ever witnessed.

Some fans seem to be galvanized by that.

I sure wasnt.

He wants it. Yaaaaa right.

Possibly. But both Wilander and Kudryavtsev are right-shot defenders. Finding young, right-shot defenders, who can actually play at the NHL-level and generate offense, are as rare as Picasso's.

And I really doubt Allvin would be tempted to include either one of them for a strict TDL rental. So it's really going to have to be something good, with a similar young talent on ELC's coming back in any deal.

They aren't deep in right D.

Myers is ancient and will likely leave in the next few years.

Hronek is a risk and oft injured.

Edit: Mynio Kud and Willander could both make the team in a few years, but there is no guarantee either amounts to top 4 quality. I wouldn't be shedding right D prospects until I was more assured. Willander should be top 4. Mancini maybe a 3rd pairing? Mynio needs a couple of years in minors, no rush on him, it's hard to know how he projects as a pro.

Edit: on left D I wouldn't be doing anything until 3pete signs. After that if still wouldn't be in a hurry to trade Kud or Dpetey. They can compete for 3rd left D and spare D in D years when Soucy is gone and Forbort wants a raise. Of course there is also Hughes uncertain future.

Never say never but it'd want to be a quality trade to move the D given the franchise depth on both sides is shallow.

You don’t trade young players with promise because in 4-5 years there might not be space for them. For one thing, very rarely has a NHL team had too many good prospects they didn’t know what to do with. Second, not all those players will hit but if they are improving you keep them around (pending roster build goals…ie. adding for a run). The time to deal is when the youngster is knocking on the door. Then you evaluate if you move the veteran or the younger guy. Essentially too many prospects is never an issue.
Carolina. A nice stock of prospects that are pushing each other for spots. Jake Guentzal and Mikko Rantanen and no first round picks were given up for either.

First off your right we lack RHD alltogether.

But Kudryatsev isnt even one. Hes a LHD that can play RHD.

So we have even less.

But after 3 years of calling around and chasing every Scott Morrow and Braden Schneider out there I dont see any way Allvin trades any of the 3 he name checked even when we sign 3petey.

He totally wants a bunch at his disposal. He knows how close he's been to overpaying for the last 3 years and with Abby down the road and 3 years on ELCs we will let all 3 defenders simmer forever.

Its why we took Willander so high.

Safest bet is probably s Sawyer Mynio abby jersey you probably get a solid 3 seasons outta it.

Typo fixed.

I agree with your post though. Apart from Willander there isn't any blue chip Deven defensive prospects and they have to hope some exceed expectations. Canucks are going to need quality through depth.

If they pick up another longer term D in the off season that changes the equation quite a bit.

  • Had a conversation with Miller and his agent 2 months ago; was about his health and the environment; felt Miller needed a fresh start
  • The reason why Miller is so good is because he’s super competitive; has been dealing with a lot of other things
  • Wasn’t just about 2 players but the entire 23/23 man roster
  • Not running a country club
  • His job to create a safe environment for the players
  • Miller never requested a trade; during the last 2 months the team decided with him it was the best for him, his health, and his family to move on

I wonder if he was dealing with some mental health and other health related stuff which led him to lash out on his teammates and staff even more than usual. The constant pressure and media attention probably didn't help. However, that would be counter to JR's interview recently. The part about creating a safe environment for players seems pretty damning, IMO.

Yeah safe environment sounds like a big thing. Wtf was happening in the background that made it not a safe environment?

They just acquired M. Pettersson to be the second-pair LD for the foreseeable future and LD is the only position where there is some depth of quality in the prospect pool. They want to make the playoffs and the top-six forward group obviously needs an upgrade; if they need to include a respectable prospect as part of a package for a good player, why wouldn't they offer one of the three young LD's?

I guess the 3LD all have top4 potential, better hold on to them and see which one can actually get to that level because the value of one becoming a top4 guy is probably higher value than trading them now.

Just heard Allvin on with the HNIC panel.......said a lot more about the Miller situation than he did at the Airport Press Conference earlier in the afternoon.

He basically said that Miller's leave a couple of months ago was at least partially related to a discussion with management about whether he wanted to stay in Vancouver. Apparently those discussions continued, and his future never really got resolved.

I'm beginning to believe that maybe this Pettersson-Miller rift was overblown, and a bit of a distraction from the real reasons for the Miller trade.

Allvin said the ultimate decision to trade him was in the best interests of 'Miller and his family'. He's an Eastern U.S. guy. Maybe he just wanted to play out the remainder of his NHL career closer to home.

His wife absolutely loved it here. All the charity work, them buying a suite at the Rog (Cloud 9).

She just recently celebrated her birthday in Whistler. It was a surprise weekend organized by Miller a few months in advance. Troccek’s wife was there too.

The fans loved Miller to the end.

Nothing points to them disliking it here. The only thing I’ve got is the media attention, drilling in and day in and day out.

Maybe this is why Canadian teams can’t have nice things. They have to be perfect on the ice and off it. One misstep and the vultures pounce on it.

Well Allvin actually said it......Miller's trade to the Rangers was in the best of interests of Miller 'AND his family'.

I doubt he'd have said it, if it wasn't true.

God bless Torts' honesty at the very least, minutes before puckdrop:

Pierre McGuire: How do you plan on breaking down (Team X) defense?
Torts: I'm not telling you.

Which is the correct answer.
Well Jim Rutheford's interview with Gary Mason of the Globe and Mail is right up there with Torts brutal honesty. He basically told us that Miller was being traded......and that some people wouldn't be happy with the return.

I said as much, even before the interview came out I was screaming it on these boards "whatever trade they make is a trade they'll lose". I think we came out of the deal pretty good. It could have been a hell of a lot worse.

I know coaches ideally want "matched pairs" but is it THAT much a stretch to have even just *ONE* pairing consisting of two LDs?

Based on Tocchet's post game interview yesterday, where he looked absolutely pissed that Miller had been traded, and called him the "heart and soul" of the team, it's possible that Tocchet had asked management not to trade Miller and they did so anyway.

And this is Allvin's way of trying to get back into his good books.

Complete speculation on my part, however.
Wonder if we will see a coaching change this summer.

The more I see Allvin speak with the dreaded Vancouver media the more I like the guy and believe in his work.
Yeah.

He should have growled with a low voice and punch one of the reporters to show he has that pashun.

I thought he was well spoken and explained some of the process behind the moves they made.

They didnt need to hold his feet to the fire he did his job and did his part to solve the locker room issues.

He had the entire game to know his press duties were coming and had to know the Jt questions were gonna happen and his response was very underwhelming, as is typical.

But yeah I kinda wanted ANYTHING to show some passion. Not being backed into a corner so he appeases the masses with "i want the pressure".

Seems like it appeased you though so mission accomplished.

I dont need to be appeased.

He isnt playing well. He isnt able to skate like he used to and he doesnt have his shot.

I really really hope he can get his physical tools back. This year is already a lost cause so I hope we see him back to his normal self when next season starts.

They want to compete now and thus won't be able to wait to see who turns out and who doesn't before making a trade for a good player.
