Is this serious? You mean a core of 50 point MacKinnon, 30 point Landeskog, Tyson Barrie, and Matt Duchene?
Is this serious? Duchene, MacKinnon, O'Reilly, Landeskog is a bad core? The fact that they underperformed to the levels of "50 point MacKinnon" supports the argument Roy is NOT a very good coach. Don't you think the fact that one of his generation's best offensive players could not improve on his rookie season (where he scored 10 points in 7 playoff games) for 3 more years points to the fact that maybe the coach wasn't getting the most out of him?

Especially when this applies pretty much across the board, pretty much everyone on the Avs declined/did not break out under him and his tenure led to O'Reilly and Duchene asking out of town altogether.

Honestly, even just calling this "shenanigans" is an overreaction, let alone "insane shenanigans."

Still waiting to hear others interpretations that are saying this. If this was Berube saying these things about Treliving the city of Toronto would be on fire.

I don't think the metric for sane reactions to hockey "news" should be what Toronto fans would do. It sounds like some very minor frustration being vented in a way that is kind of polite, particularly for Roy. It's only news if you need a break from sports media.

probably one of the rarer cases of good coach, bad team
Is he actually a good coach though?

Colorado were shit when he coached there, other than the first year, where they were touted as unsustainable the entire year and that was proven after that year.

I think it all came crashing in game 7 of the playoffs that year, when Minnesota answered back for every goal, crushed them territorially all night (which happened to them most nights that year) and won it in OT.

I don’t understand what exactly makes Roy a good head coach at this level.

This whole quote may be a big nothing and completely out of context.

But at the same time, I don’t think any of Lou’s former coaches would have had the balls to say something like this publicly while working for him. Not even Burns, who was a fiery guy and didn’t give a f***.

Him saying he loves his players and saying he wants to work hard for the players and the fans is in no way representative of a beef with Lou.

The Pierre Engvall quote is also a nothing burger.

Well, at least Engvall quote implies it wasn't Roy's decision to play him which does raise an eyebrow coming from the head coach.
