I cant remember who was the Islanders head coach before Patrick Roy.
He immediately becomes the toughest guy on the team.

When he started his coaching career, he was pretty much all about offense. But last year his team won it all in the CHL using a more passive but effective system. They had a lot of offensive talent and used it but every player took care of their defense first. They didn't have the best defense or the best goalie but they had the least goals scored against for two seasons because players believed in his system. He also likes fast teams in transition.

Word is some western teams were interested but he declined because he wants to stay somewhat close to his Quebec home

First, thanks to Lane and best wishes. Until the outburst after the Black Hawks game, he did everything he could to not point fingers publicly. As many of you noted, the first go-round as a head coach is kind of like running for President; not many win the first time they run and you learn for the next opportunity, which he will get. I'm sure BT will find a spot for him in Nashville in some capacity if needed.
130-92-24 in his 3 NHL seasons in Colorado for Roy and didn't win a playoff series. Last few years have been terrific with the Quebec Remparts, as others noted, and a Memorial Cup win last year. In the Cup round, the goalie went 2.15 and .937, so it would be great.
I wonder how he'll interact with the NY media, that could be fun.
