This is assuming Kane is requesting to go home to Buffalo and the Sabres are somewhat in the playoff hunt in February. Sabres could just wait to sign him next summer but it could be a trade similar to Taylor Hall where the Sabres got a 2nd, Bjork and Lazar. Chicago doesn't want him to walk for nothing. Buffalo does have three 2nd round picks in 2023 and also have the rights to Portillo and Ryan Johnson which could all be included in a package. What is realistic at the deadline under this scenario.

Kane controls all. Not sure if the hawks would be interested in second round picks. Also Portillo and Johnson really don’t hold much value considering it’s their last year of college and can walk.

Even if he controls the situation its not going to force Chicago to settle for 2nds and meh prospects. If Jarmo can get 1sts for Foligno and Savard I think its safe to assume Chicago can manage a 1st + for Kane, especially with retention.

If Buffalo is not a contender in March there is little chance they are on Kane’s list.
Kane sold his Buffalo place shortly after the mom/daughter tried to plant evidence of a sexual assault.
Kane’s parents spend more time at Kane’s home in Chicago (with the grand baby) than they do in Buffalo.
Kane’s baby momma (it is said they are close) is from Chicago as is her whole family.

There are rumors floating around now that he gets moved at the TDL and resigns with Chicago. He can play for cups from April to June while closing in on most Hawk scoring records.
Plus Chicago will have lots of cap space. I could see 1 yr, 12 mill and move again (retained) at the TDL.

Kane to a slightly less pathetic team makes a lot of sense. We must still be in the off-season mindset of thinking this is the season Buffalo is a playoff team, even though we’ve been told this every summer for the last 7 years.

Also the talk from a few months ago insinuated Kane would give “a list” of suitable destinations.
Clearly it depends on how those teams do in season and injuries but reality there will be 4 to 6 “favorites”. Adding Kane to one of them would have major impact. They become prohibitive favorites.

I wrote in another thread. Can you imagine the impact to Kane’s legacy if the Leafs added him and they won the cup?

M Night Shyamalan twist: Buffalo brokers a deal between Chicago and Tampa for a 23 1st...

Then signs him next summer to a 3x5
Ok, Kane’s taking 5 mill per? Why?
Kane has 3 more years at the level he is at.
No way he accepts 5 mill.

In no reality will the Sabres be in a playoff spot or hunt ( within 6 points) at the deadline. For that to happen who comes out ??? Toronto?? No, Florida Tampa?? No ..rangers?? Pittsburgh? Washington? Carolina? The only possible team that may not make it is Boston and having said that Boston is deeper and better than Buffalo. Combine that with improvements from Ottawa and Detroit and Buffalo may be a second last place team . Sorry Montreal 😞

The Pens are going to be pathetic for a long time. Wait for it..... LOL

Sabres need a D upgrade RHD more than Kane. They have so many high end forwards coming up the system. Honestly it seems like a weird thing to say but : 1.) They’re not winning a cup this year so they don’t qualify for a put them over the top trade 2.) Long-term, he just doesn’t seem to fit with what is coming up through the ranks and what they need.

Washington, Pittsburgh and or Boston. IF Marner or Matthews go down with a season ending injury. Anything is possible. Islander should be back in the mix. I would not be surprised to see 2 of Detroit, Ottawa or Buffalo make the playoffs.

As opposed to getting nothing? He's leaving anyway with the impending re-build. What's the benefit for having him around for a couple of months then lose him for nothing? Then what about the sentiment that Kane has earned the right? I wouldn't be surprised if Wirtz pushed to accommodate Kane's wishes.

Your scenario only matters if Kane provides a list of teams. That's not a certainty. If Buffalo is in playoff contention then it's a legitimate possibility Kane will ask to go to only Buffalo.
