So bittersweet . Has been a privilege to witness Patrice develop as a player, leader, amazing human being over all these years in Boston. Was there at the start, seeing him as a shy 18 year old making the team.

At the silent Garden when you were knocked unconscious and our hearts were in our throats, standing in parking lot when the airport bus pulled up after the 2011 SCF and you and the guys hoisted the cup. All the happy Captain’s lines at home after each win, the special high fives and low fives(Pasta) and dancing hugs(Foligno).

You have been a joy to behold, wishing you peace and contentment in your retirement, Hope you will stay in Boston (we claimed you as our own long ago:nod:)
Ending with tears of gratitude and sadness and the saddest picture ever of (as we now know) your last time in the ice as an active player. Until we meet again:heart:

Some clown on Twitter said that he was the most overrated player ever.

You can ignore what the media and the fans say about a player. If you wanted to, you could even ignore what his teammates think about him.

But you can't ignore what his peers on the other teams think about him. They had to play against him every game for 19 years. They said he was the perfect hockey player.

Also, who was the RW on the no 1 line for Team Canada with Crosby for two Gold Medals?

Looch being interviewed about Bergy.

I get the sense Looch knew that Bergy was done.

from Looch.
"He got more vocal as the years went on"

"He brought it every day, even in practice"

"He was fun"

"Others need to step up for leadership and Looch wants to help out and continue the culture "

Headline from Montreal Gazette about Bergeron It was 20 years ago that Bob Gainey and Trevor Timmins had a dynasty at their fingertips — and blew it when they didn't draft a fitting successor to Jean Béliveau.

Spot-on. I put a lot of stock into what opponents say about another player. When close to 100% of opponents respect someone and give nothing but praises that is about as high of an honor as a hockey player can achieve. Impossible to overrate someone in that echelon. Guaranteed if Bergy announced his retirement a season in advance every team in the NHL would have done a little something pre-game to honor him in his last game at each arena. That is how well respected he is. I know Bergy wouldn't have wanted that since he is so humble, but he would have gotten it regardless.

All I can think is what a sad way to go out.

These have been a great 20 years, but can't help but feel they left more than a few titles in the table. But they got the 1, and his goals were the difference in that game. The shorthanded goal on Luongo was the moment that put it away.
They were the 90's Atlanta Braves of the NHL.

ouch
truly sad as a fan

Change the Selke to the Bergy

enjoy your family - you deserve it!!!

After Chara and Bergy, I just don't see anyone on the roster deserving of the "C."

I know others will say BM.

Won Selke #6 in his last season, and is still a #1 center.
I think it's great to see a player go out on top.

A clown on Twitter why even acknowledge such a tool, everyone who knows anything about Hockey knows that Bergy is arguably the best two-way forward that ever played the game.
