Far be it from me to speculate, but I see this as simple thread to get all the McDavid and Matthews fanboys in a tither.

It definitely did. Couldn't go more than a day on this board without seeing that verbal dirrahea coming out of Toronto.

Then surely you can provide examples of posts since Matthews won the Hart where Leafs fans saying Matthews is better than McDavid, I mean, if it was every day it should take you no time at all. I'll wait,

I don't think he was ever considered as goal scorer.

In the draft they were talking about how he was a all around guy, not a dynamic goal scorer
but with a great two way game (Bob McKenzie), mix of Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar.

Boston picked him 25th in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (at the time he was listed at 5 foot 10 and 170+ lbs)
- he was ranked from 22 to 35

Lets start from 2012

He went to play to Sweden, to develop more as a hockey player
played mostly in the J20 Super Elite for Södertälje.

36 games
12 goals
17 assists
29 points
+6
77 penalty minutes

2 goals, 2 assists, 4 points +2 and 10 penalty minutes in the play-offs

Also played in the AllsVenskan for 11 games, there he scored 2 goals and added 1 assist
In the SHL Q series in 5 games, didn't score any points (Södertälje were not promoted to the SHL and remained in the AlllSvenskan)

WJC-18 : 1 goal, 1 assist in 5 games

2013-2014 (his draft year)

Pasta played mostly in the AllSvenskan, scored 8 goals, 16 assists, 24 points in 36 games, was +7 and had 28 penalty minutes
12 games combined in the WJC-18 & WJC, scored 1 goal and 7 assists, 8 points.

Experts/analysts were praising his WJC games in Sweden, where he scored a goal and two assists in five games,
even though didn't score that much, he played really well, showed strong two way game.

2014-2015 (his first NA pro season)

Started the season from the AHL, scored 2 primary assists in his P-Bruins debut, scored 2 goals, 4 assists in first 4 games in A.
- all of his assists were primary.

Got his first call up in late November after scoring 4 goals, 14 assists in 18 games in the AHL
- played 5 games, 1 assist, ice time; 7:53, 17:02, 17:00, 15:34 and 13:37

Rest of the December he played in the AHL,, his last AHL games of his rookie season.
His pro debut in NA, in the AHL : 11 goals, 17 assists, 28 points in 25 games, he was +16. (76 sog)

He scored his first career goal in his 2nd game back, he ended up scoring 4 goals in 2 games,
then only once in his next 12 games.

His ice time varied; in his first 5 games back he averaged 16:30 per game, but next 7, 13:10 in average
then his ice time jumped, also his scoring; next 24 games, 6 goals, 15 assists, 21 points,
ended his rookie season with 5 games without a point.

NHL rookie season : 10 goals, 17 assists, 27 points in 46 games (93 sog)
(3 pp goals - 24 ev points )

2015-2016

He started his season from the NHL this time, his ice time continued to vary a lot, mostly bottom-6 role
but had every now and then good 15, 16, 17 minute games as well.

he lost number of games after thumb surgery, playing 51 games.

15 goals, 11 assists, 26 points, 108 sog, all of his points were scored 5 on 5

2016-2017 (the breakout #1 season)

He started his last ELC contract year with a bang, 3 game goal streak, 4 game point streak, he got a steady ice time from the get go
and stayed in the top 6 the entire season.

5 goals in his first 3 games. 15 shots on goal. Other than his late December 8 game pointless streak, Pasta scored goals and points
steadily through his 3rd season. His average ice time grew with almost 5 minutes per game. - it showed in production, also sog

34 goals (12 PP), 36 assists, 70 points with 263 sog in 75 games, huge difference from 93 and 108 sog seasons

His breakout season brought him a 6 year, 6.66 million dollar contract (that expires after this season and his new 11,25 mill contract kicks in)

2017-2018

His next season was a middle of the park kind of season, no production progression from previous season, but none of the other kind either

35 goals (13 PP), 80 points, with exact the same ice time what previous season, played his first play-offs games though,
- two strong seasons in a row, but no star level production yet. (had 30 less shots on goal what last season)

2018-2019

Pasta's average ice time increased by about 1,5 minutes per game, his sog count dropped slightly, but his s% increased with 3.
38 goals (17 PP), 81 points in 66 games, this was his first season when he led the Bruins in goals.

He had solidified himself as an 30+ goal and 70-80 point elite skater, next goal; star level
- had a strong 1,23 ppg season

Next season he had his second breakout season, where he became the star play player we all know,
but this season... he has gone beyond and become the best goal scorer in the NHL (AINEC)

He never really had a neck for scoring goals, but here we are, 60 goals, 109 points in a single season in the NHL,
when he was really never regarded as an serious offensive threat either..

| i was going to write more, from each season, but then ugh... i got bored :) and yeah, its not very good read, but its something at least | |

Call me Ishmael..

I’d have it:
McDavid (I think he’s taken his game to another level)
Pasta/Matthews/Draisaitl
I just can’t see any separation between those three after McDavid.
McDavid could still lose the Rocket to Pasta. I mean it's not the most likely scenario, but if McDavid goes goalless from here on out, and I think Pasta has 2 games left?, he could do 5 or 6 in 2 games and steal it.

Happy to see he got 60.

It's disappointing that Pasternak most likely won't win the Hart this year but the PHWA can't voter fatigue McDavid again this year (f***ing schmucks).

Draisaitl put up 32 points in 16 playoff games last season playing on a bummed ankle.. Were you singing his praises after this? No, you definitely weren't.

Going off your narrative, he would have had 40-45+ points in 16 games if healthy.

Some Leafs fans still can't accept the fact that McDavid outscoring Matthews is something your going to have to get used to.

Also, Matthews doesn't have 40, yet.
Matthews is about to be the quickest to 300 goals since Ovechkin.
Sits at 299 goals just a few games slower than Ovy to 300.

Guys like Stamkos, Draisaitl, Crosby, McDavid reached 300 in like 60 more games played than Matthews.

The math is not debatable.

Lol, what's your point exactly?

I would bet that Pasta outscores McDavid next year.

As I've stated before, I think Pasta is the 2nd best goal scorer in the league.

Again, what you posted literally has nothing to do with my post that you quoted.

I stated that McDavid outscoring Matthews is something you're going to have to get used to.. You decided to give me a history lesson, which is irrelevant to the statement I made.
