Pastrnak's journey to the best goal scorer in the world

The journey must be ongoing because he's still not there

Interesting take. I know that the Bruins botched the draft 8 years ago, but in fairness to Sweeney he had been on the job for three weeks come draft day and had not actually seen any of these players play. Sweeney had been in charge of player development and the AHL team before he got his promotion. He trusted his scouts. The same scouts that identified Pasta for Chia the year before.
It's overstated too , Debrusk is a stud and zboril would be a regular dman on most teams in the NHL - it could have gone a lot worse. Sure they didn't end up with Barzal/Connor/Chabot but 2 roster players on a 63 win team isn't bad, they could have just as easily taken Svechnikov or White (who aren't really much better than Zboril at this point) and likely wouldn't make their roster today

Agreed.

Pasta is the best pure goal scorer in the league imo.

McDavid is the best everything but Pasta has to be in the top 5 overall conversation, maybe even top 3 conversation.

Playoffs are gonna be exciting, time for this new crop of super stars to take over from the old guys

It amazes me how little respect he gets on HF. He's already won a rocket in 2020! This isn't a new thing.

He lost his son last offseason and had an off season with only 40 goals and a .ppg pace.

And people are talking about him like this season is a fluke.lol

60 goals 2 seasons after winning a rocket.

McDavid is on a different level, he's not human. Pasta is not that but he will probably get a Hart nomination to add to his Rocket trophy...

Some even suggest he's being carried.. by who? He leads team in assists too and has a healthy 40 point lead on 2nd which is why I think he'll get a Hart nom. Best team in the regular season by a mile and he has a 40 point lead on second.

60 goals was enough to get Matthew's a Hart last season. This year you'd have to get 70 to even be considered for that after what McD is doing.

Seems like the best comeback is that he's not McDavid.. totally agree. He's firmly in the 2nd best player in the league talk this year though. Imagine 'not being McDavid' as a big insult.lol He is outpacing Matthews Hart and Rocket year. Holy hell was this place insufferable when Matthews won with 60 goals and 106 points. Pasta gets 60 goals and 109 points (2 games left) and he's not in Top 5 conversations.lol

100 goals in his last 2 seasons. Put some respect on the man's name!

I'll see myself out.

I don't know if I love David Pastrnak or George Leafer more.

I hadn't realized how far ahead he was in scoring lead on the Bruins, goodness golly thats insane.

Also HM to Krejci, who the f*** goes in retirement for a year at 34 and comes back being this good?

Shocking isn't it?

He doesn't have a teammate in the Top 75 in scoring. Everyone else that I'm told is better than him has at least 1, 2, 3 or 4 guys in the Top 75.

It's unfortunate that Pasta won't be winning the rocket this year. You would think a guy who scores 60 would automatically be the rocket winner.

I have to think that's the biggest raw lead in the league and by % too. Impressive stuff from Pasta. Hope he gets a few Hart nods. Mackinnon is also insanely impressive.

He is amazing! And has a Cup now! Him and Rantanan are doing a lot of lifting too!

I should clarify, I love the Boston forwards and am not trying to say they suck.lol Just trying to point out what level Pasta is at this season.

Using top 75 in scoring (65 points today), not many guys are alone on that list...

Keller, Pasta, Gaudreau, Toffoli, Larkin, Nelson, McCann, Eichel and Ovi.

He’s in the mix with McDavid, Draisaitl and Matthews imo. Any of those four could win on any given year. It really depends on whether McDavid has taken this to another level which I think he has. The rest may be fighting for second spot.

I think the thread was indicating one of the best goal scorers, or a top goal scorer in the world. Not necessarily the absolutely best goal scorer in the world. Just worded badly. And even for the not even close part, I would like to just imagine that's worded wrong.
Maybe you missed this gem "he has gone beyond and become the best goal scorer in the NHL (AINEC)" from the OP 🤣

Last years 60 goal guy won a Rocket and a Hart. Then I had to read about how he's better than McDavid till about Xmas.lol

That term never made sense to me. Wouldn’t the best pure goal scorer just be the best goal scorer? Are McDavid/Drai/Matthews goals less pure? It’s like the people saying Gretzky was never the best pure goal scorer despite obliterating/still holding a large number of the goal scoring records and having the most goals of all time.

Pasta is a top 5 goal scorer for sure but there doesn’t seem to be any evidence that would put him up as either the best goal scorer OR the best pure goal scorer (whatever that means).

No, I put that in my post (the not even close part)
That's the the part where I imagine it was just poorly worded. :)

He developed an insane shot after his sophomore season while keeping the same style of never showing any respect to defencemen. After that it's been just refining.

In terms of pure goal-scoring, I think it's him and Matthews.

I mean, McDavid does whatever McDavid wants to do. He came into the year with a challenge to be a bigger shooter. If he comes in next year with a challenge to be a superior defensive forward, he'll be down to 110 points or something and be like a +80. He's a mutant.

But Matthews and Pasta are built around their ability to score in binges. They're always going to be that.

David Pastrnak's journey to become the best goal scorer in the NHL began when he was a teenager growing up in the Czech Republic. He started playing hockey at a young age and quickly developed a passion for the sport.

In 2014, at the age of 18, Pastrnak was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the NHL draft. He began his professional career with the Providence Bruins, the team's AHL affiliate, but quickly showed that he was ready for the big leagues.

Pastrnak made his NHL debut during the 2014-2015 season and scored his first goal in just his second game. He finished the season with 10 goals and 17 points in 46 games.

Over the next few seasons, Pastrnak continued to improve and established himself as one of the league's most dangerous goal scorers. In the 2016-2017 season, he scored 34 goals and 70 points in 75 games, earning him his first All-Star Game selection.

In the 2017-2018 season, Pastrnak continued to shine, scoring 35 goals and 80 points in just 68 games. He helped lead the Bruins to the second round of the playoffs and was named an NHL Second Team All-Star at the end of the season.

But it was during the 2018-2019 season that Pastrnak truly cemented his status as one of the league's best goal scorers. He scored 38 goals and 81 points in just 66 games, finishing third in the league in goals scored. He also led the league in power-play goals with 17 and was named to the NHL First All-Star Team.

Pastrnak's success continued in the 2019-2020 season, where he was named a co-winner of the Rocket Richard Trophy as the league's leading goal scorer, with 48 goals in 70 games. He was also named to the NHL First All-Star Team for the second year in a row.

At just 25 years old, Pastrnak has already established himself as one of the most talented and dynamic goal scorers in the NHL. With his speed, skill, and deadly accuracy, he is sure to be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.
