Glencross signed a PTO with the Leafs. At first I was disappointed, but he could actually get big minutes.

I feel so bad for Curtis, for real. I know some people questioned his effort last year but he was always a stand up guy. I really hope he has a great camp and ends up in a good situation.

I don't feel bad for millionaires that miss out on extra millions because of greed

I didn't really like the article that came out recently that quoted him as saying he made a mistake taking a hometown discount. But nonetheless, I do like him. He was always very active in the community here and donating to charities. He still did his charity event in Calgary this offseason despite not even being signed to a contract yet. I do think this guy can still play and I hope he ends up in a good situation somewhere.

You can be a good person and do good things and still be greedy.

I personally think while his contract was a little lower it wasn't a "hometown discount" like people like to say it was. He was 28 when he signed his last contract, so with him playing a physical game (at the time he signed) it should have been expected that he would slow down a bit in the final year of his contract. He had also just recorded his first 20 goal season, no one should have expected him to repeat it either since his best offensive season as a pro was 2006-07 when he scored 26 goals (25 AHL, 1 NHL) and had just beat his NHL career high by 9 goals. He got that contract based on 1 really good year and wanted term. That was why he only made 2.55 million per year, not because he took a home town discount.

I don't believe either that his hometown discount affected his efforts for a contract this year, his play dropped considerably this season. Even more so when he was traded to Washington.

Those are all fair points/facts. I still like Curtis, he's done a lot of good for the community and neighbouring areas in Calgary and I would like to see him end up in a spot somewhere.

But yeah you make good points and I think you're definitely in the right for having the feelings you do.

I would like to point out, I never once suggested he wasn't a good person, in fact from my understanding he is an amazing person. I know you never suggested I did, but I just want to be clear

For sure, and I remember that you were essentially the only person on our board last year that did not want him traded.

I didn't want to trade him for a second round pick, that was the argument IIRC. The 3rd as well made it palatable for me. But I think Glencross would have been very useful against Anaheim.
