I wanted Zito as well but at least Fletcher has a lot of experience. I also think any expansion draft moves can be given a little slack bc Vegas makes them look worse. There’s was particularly bad so not forgiven.

His playoff streak is impressive. Minny never had a top end talent except for here and there. Not the pieces we have. Now we need to get Q here. Go jackets PP and get that win!

Hey, I am the guy who gave Mike f***ing Yeo a job and I think Hak and his sandals deserve an extension

edit - just to clarify, I do not really think this is Fletcher's mindest. Just thought it was funny

FA signs:

Quincey, Stewart, Matt Cooke, Zenon Konopka, Torrey Mitchell, Eric Nystrom, Petr Sykora

Brent Burns and a second-round pick for Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and a first-rounder.
Leddy for Barker.
Pominville for draft picks
Hanzal for 1st + 2nd...

ETC.

I'm really scared...

I have no problem moving Ghost and Jake in the right deal, to me this year is cosmetics, it's about competing from 2020-21 onward.
So you look at players in terms of what they might contribute next decade.
Jake will be on the down slope with a big cap hit, while I'm wondering about Ghost's health, he looks "off" this season.

The key is the right deal, not a deal for 30+ year old talent, not a deal for draft picks unless you immediately swap them for NHL ready players.

Fletcher was the "safe" move, but that's what I expected from Holmgren, he can talk about the new NHL, but at heart he's a dinosaur.

We might have downgraded at the GM position and still have Hakstol as HC and Lappy running the PK. We are not better off then we were 2 weeks ago. We are only better off when Fletcher removes this pathetic coaching staff; which probably won't be until the summer.

I'm just waiting for NJ to fire Hynes and hire Quenneville. That's gonna be fun.

When a GM has a long enough tenure, you're almost always going to find plenty good ones and plenty bad ones unless you're just awful at it.

The Burns trade wasn't bad at the time he made it. He was finally healthy, but there were concussion issues.

If NJ or Pittsburgh let their underperforming coaches go and land a Quenneville-type guy, I am going to be amused. Angry, but amused. A lot of cynicism will be involved

If it does end up being Fletcher (certainly seems that way), my only real issue with him is the expansion draft. He could've done better IMO and has me a little worried as to what will happen next time. It does seem like he protected the true asset in Dumba, but he gave up a lot to do so. The Minnesota defense had a similar feel to the Flyers at this next draft IMO.

FWIW Alex Tuch hadn't really done much from a prospect standpoint, so it likely took an internal decision on talent and potential to make him available. The full story could be that he was just under a lot of pressure to turn the current team into a cup winner. They need to keep this young core together now. Can't lose that in the name of keeping JVR or Simmonds around.

Fletcher imo does not have any redeeming qualities to hang his hat on.

Talent is acculmulated in 3 ways. Free Agency signings, Trades and Drafts.

Let's take a look at Free Agency. Not only did he sign suter and Parise to terrible per year earning and term contracts, but he picked two guys who have limited ability to improve a team. Suter and Parise while good players should not be a teams best players or highest paid players. He ssigned Koivu to close to a 7 million dollar cap hit in 2011. That is close to 11 percent of the cap. Since signing that contract he has not scored 20 goals.

Let's look at Trades. Pominville, Hanzel, chris stewart, matt moulson, daroll powe, all terrible trades. The Brett Burns trade was incredibly stupid, considering had they kept him they wouldn't have to sign Suter to that crazy deal. The only one i can consider a good one is the cal clutterbuck deal , but then again look at what GM he was working with there. and the dubynk one where again he was dealing with a terrible organization and they got lucky

Now look at draft picks. He consistently drafts terrible players, or guys with little to no upside. First round picks do hit but rarely does anything outside the first. He is a terrible GM. One of the worst actually.
