Who knows. You know I didn't like this roster headed into the season. The dog hunted for awhile but I'm looking at a lot of players like Brown, henrique, Perry, Janmark Ryan that are running out of gas. Was a strange play expecting all of these to have enough gas in the tank this season after a long last season. Looks like we're going to see SC hangovers at times and a crew that just looks like nothing after the McD and Drai show.

Some won't like this, but I like what Bowman has done (with less) than JJ did. Bringing Janmark, Brown and Perry back was fine, and while Arvidsson has been solid with healthy, they clearly grabbed Skinner based on his name and calling-card than any consideration for where he actually fits on the team.

IMO if they didn't have what Stan did with nibbling around the edges (Emberson, Podz, and Kapanen all solid pickups with 0 cap and also getting rid of anchor Ceci), they might not be in a playoff spot

We didn’t give up enough to call it a rout. Probably sitting at 3xga. Could have used an extra save on that one muffin though. And / or the wrap attempt.
Pickard isn't a great goalie either. I think Pickard might be marginally better than Skinner but clearly there is no one who could be called the main puck stopper. There wasn't much thought about this in the off-season. I realize that hindsight is always 20/20 but they could have attempted to address the secondary scoring issue and the goaltender issue at the same time.

Probably the best first step is to see if you can offload Jeff Skinner somewhere, might as well get more cap for the deadline if you’re going to healthy scratch him.

Then there’s two options:

- Top 6 F
- Top 4 D

OR

- Top 4 D
- Goalie

And I’m not certain if we have the resources to acquire these assets.
Trade him to St. Louis for Holloway and include 2 first round picks.:D

The correct choice would have been to pass on Skinner and use his cap for another tandem goalie. While the other acquisitions aren't perfect, this one is the worst relative to cap and team need

That's right. You don't have to have 2 on on 1's or breakaways to have great chances.
Brown doesn't have great hands but he knows where to position himself on the ice.

Ironically, despite his critics (myself included) he has been decent value for his contract.

We said the same about Brown

Lots of good looks in zone. But not like we were giving them 2 on 1s and breakaways all game.
Brown just couldn’t score but played a strong defensive game. Skinner is the worse player on this team. He is Caggiula level.

Blissfully I was on the road so I didn’t see a minute of this. I do see my prediction that Skinner would be out in favour of Ryan came true and also see Ryan was a solid -2. Time to give Philp a chance in the bottom six and get a resolution to the Jeff Skinner fiasco.

The Mom’s trip to California between Christmas and New Years probably had their brains on holiday mode.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. They didn't have to sign all of Perry, Skinner, Arvidsson and Henrique. 3 would have been enough and then leave some dry powder for a 3rd goalie who might step up. They could also have waived Ryan before the season started.

They have a bunch of youth there been improving. He threw ours out and added aging players who are on the decline. That youth and potential can make a difference.

That can change with some trades and stuff but right now.. I don’t like the teams direction.

Trotting out “youth” as the reason the Kings are better than us is hilarious.

Not sure what Brandt Clarke is going to do as McDavid and Draisaitl completely abuse Doughty and Kopitar for the 4th year in a row.

Yes? After 36 games we were 20-15-1 41 points. 21-12-3 this year 45 points. Team last year was performing better and had a better offence.
the team was 15-3-1 prior to Xmas, the best record in that time-frame...and their analytics are some of the best in the league

2 poor games and now the sky is falling LMAO

Its false economy. We're paying this guy on average 2.5M/ year to have this fool here being old and slow and doing next to nothing. On the same org that decided it couldn't pay speed guys like Holloway, McLeod, Foegele. Its a problem, a real problem.

Contending teams don't have half a dozen horseshit players that shouldn't even be here in 2024.

Its salt in the wound to me I have to watch done players like Brown, Ryan, Perry pretend they still have NHL fight in them. Guys just want some more NHL cheques for retirement.

McDrai would have to out produce their entire roster cause we currently have nothing. Our pp isn’t even good this year. Even if we got past them that would be it for us.

Maybe it’s hyperbole but we are not at the level we were last year and with all the added old bad players that’s just not good.

Time for Bowman to fix Jackson’s off season mess ups.

McDrai normally do exactly that - out produce their entire roster. Have three years in a row basically.

True. But Skinner could atleast generate chances, Brown looked like his knees might give out at any time. Obviously they are not similar players, but I’m just sayin it looked as bleak as it could possibly look with Brown last year and he turned it around. It could happen.

You don’t, but straight on shots in zone. Are a different category of danger than odd man rush chances.
