This city is cursed sometimes.

Hopefully the Lions can play .500 ball down the stretch and maybe secure the 2nd seed.

The glass is half full view? I bet Rourke would want more game time to marinate in the CFL before going for the NFL, so this might get us an extra year of him. This also helps prepare O’Connor and the rest of the offence for life after Rourke.

So the B.C. Lions season basically ends on one meaningless play late in the game......I know next to nothing about QB's O'Connor or Pipkin.....but they're backups for a reasons.

The Lions defense may enable them to win a few games down the stretch.....but their quarterbacking isn't likely to get them too far in the playoffs. To bad for the Leos but even worse for the CFL.

We really don't know what we have at the QB position so it's entirely too early to be all doom and gloom. We didn't know what we had in Rourke before this season either.

Really unfortunate and sometimes if Vancouver sports didn't have bad luck we'd have no luck at all but let's wait and see how things go from here. The good news is that we have a great record and have a pretty good team so I personally think we'll be ok.

What a frickin bummer - for Roarke, the Lions, the CFL and us fans.

Have to feel for the Lions' owner. With Roarke doing so well, I'm sure he was anticipating better crowds in the fall. The back-up QB's have great receivers to work with, but none of them have Roarke's arm. Sigh.

Awful injury.

I know they are reporting that he might be back for the end of the season, but there's no way with a Lisfranc and they are just being disingenuous to the fans to even say that. Doubt he's on a football field in 2022, even to practice. He's done for the year, and that sucks.

At this point you just gotta hope he comes back 100%. This is the same injury that ruined cam newton.

Newton's downfall was more his shoulder injuries which basically ruined his accuracy.. which already wasn't great. He actually came back pretty well from the foot injury, at least in terms of still being able to do some damage on the ground running. Hopefully Rourke will come out well on the other side.

You're right! People were doubting Rourke at the beginning of the season, than once he played they jumped on the Rouke train. You can't tell if a QB is good, until he gets a chance to play.

Agreed. The team can say whatever they want to keep fans engaged but I don't think we see him anywhere near the field again this season and playoffs. Given his recent success and his relatively young age he has opened up doors for his career that were not even a dream 6 months ago. There is no way in reality he takes any chances. He won't be on the field until he's 150% regardless of what the team says publicly.

So very sorry to hear this about Mr. Rourke, hopefully he returns in good health. He is a shining star for the CFL, a kid that seems to do everything right with a great attitude! Speaking as a statee I truly enjoy watching this young man operate ! As the late great Hank Stramm might put it “I really enjoy how that fella matriculates the ball down the field “

Yep, we could have a QB controversy despite our starting QB looking to be the league MVP until he was hurt. :)

I must be getting really old. Once upon a time 100% was as good as a person could be and as much as a person could give. Then it became 110%. Now, with Canada's inflation rate back to 1970's territory it has inflated to 150%.

O’Connor with 37 pass attempts in 3 years? I guess they will see how it goes. If it doesn’t work out they will trade for a recycled QB from the league.

I'm sure the Lions will revamp their offense to shield a QB who likely can't throw the deep ball with much accuracy. Expect a lot more of a running game and short passing.

That may be enough for B.C. to win a few in the last half of the season and get into the playoffs. But you're not going to get anywhere near the Grey Cup game with essentially a backup QB.

It't strange....until Rourke went down, I'd never heard of Lisfranc foot injury....now there seems to be a rash of them. The latest is Chet Holmgren, the OK Thunder's first round pick in the NBA draft. Basically the same injury--damaged ligaments and sorry folks, he's basically gone for the entire season.

So depending on the severity of the injury, there's virtually 'zero chance' Rourke is back in time for the playoffs. A serious shame.....just when the franchise was really stating to roll again.

I think Matt Coral as well got one. Unfortunate how 3 similarly aged athletes all got the same injury in such quick succession.

I don't want to say it's a common injury, but you see them pretty regularly in the NFL. Maybe a few a year and it seems skill position players get hit by it more than most. Last year Jags 1st round RB Travis Etienne had one as well.

As for Rourke, there's zero chance he's back this year. I'm sure at some point this year the Lions will say it and not string fans along anymore.

Would be curious to see a study on sports injury frequency & severity over the decades.

Science, body maintenance, rehab, diet, everything is far better now but because of that, all the sports and the athletes playing in them are at such a ridiculously high level so I would be curious to see what the strain is on bodies relative to before.

I think the "turf" at the old Empire Stadium was the reason for a number of the injuries. It was almost like actual concrete. No doubt the legendary Rudi Krol stuck it out for a season & said, I'm getting the eff outta here before I get myself injured playing soccer on this surface.

In related lions news sounds like a new stadium is going to be part of the Surrey elections. Talking about a 60k stadium (too large imo) around the Fleetwood area, near the sky train line. But a key aspect of their initial plan is no Parking which is crazy. Have to think where people live and give fans options to get there.

It's a very poorly thought out plan by the mayor, likely to just distract from his other issues. It's been discussed enough here in the past but some sort of 25k-30k outdoor stadium in Surrey makes total sense as it would work for concerts and other big events. It's gotten lots of airplay because of how outlandish the idea is, but I assume if things actually moved forward you would see a much smaller stadium build with adequate space for things like parking.

Yeah that whole plan without parking is absurd. I think m9 is onto something about it being a distraction more than anything. Doesn't seem like a realistic build to me.

I also wonder just how realistic an outdoor stadium is out West given the amount of rain we see. We have a different breed of people out here and I can't see the majority being interested in sitting in the rain all game getting soaked. I've been to a lot of outdoor stadiums that are supposed to have modern designs to keep fans dry but I've never left one after rain and been dry.

A stadium without seating is the most idiotic, hare-brained idea I've ever heard. It's mind-numbingly stupid.

Terrible news about Rourke. At this point I'm just hopeful that he makes a full recovery.

But I am going to remain optimistic about the remainder of our season. I think Michael O’Connor is going to get the job done, and that we still have a shot at the cup — not as good of a shot, but in my opinion the shot remains.

We will know so much more beginning at 7:30 PM tonight. I remain totally devoted to this season and to our team.
