Gerard Gallant kicked ass in the Q. From Wikipedia:
On April 24, 2009, Gallant was named head coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL. During his three seasons in Saint John, he led the team to three first-place finishes, three league final appearances, two QMJHL championships and one Memorial Cup. In three years, he was named the Canadian Hockey League Coach of the Year twice, in 2010, then again in 2011.
Good for him if he's offered a head coach job, but I think we'd miss him in Montreal.

I've been following prospects since I was a kid but more thoroughly since around the times of Andrei Kostitsyn. I've only ever had the Habs select 3 players I've wanted, although many years later, not complaining about several guys I didn't know about like Plekanec, Halak, etc but those were hindsight.

The first one we ever drafted was Ryan McD :( Was so happy we finally got a player I wanted. Then we traded him.

Second one I wanted was Beaulieu. I think he's going to be a star in this league.

The final one I wanted was Collberg. This year I'll be happy if we even get someone like Anton Karlsson or Goldlobin.

Basically, 2/3 of the guys they ever drafted that I wanted them to take were dealt before ever playing a game in a Habs jersey. One of them is now an NHL superstar. Say what you want about Ryan McD, but stats aren't everything, right now his team is in the SCF and he is a very big reason why.

When Collberg was dealt for Vanek, even having wanted Vanek and knowing full well Vanek is a perfect fit for our squad, I hated the deal. It isn't that I think Vanek = Gomez, or that Collberg = McD, but it's just an example of a trade that can seriously bite us in the ass. I know in the eyes of many we robbed NYI and for now, that hasn't changed. But come July 1st if we don't sign Vanek, or we do but he sucks, and Collberg does become the player I feel he can become... it's going to hurt.

Nathan Beaulieu is exactly what the Habs need. He's a big mobile puck moving d-man who may not be physical but doesn't shy away from contact either. I wanted him for these reasons and I still do. He's going to be a good player, he has played in a Habs jersey, we've developed him and given him the time.

Please lets end my curse and keep the guy and hope he pans out, regardless of whether or not we have Gerard.

Kicked ass? Weren't those teams absolutely stacked?

Funny how 3-4 years later all of them look like busts except Jurco, Coyle and Gelinas(two of whom were late season additions in separate years) relative to where they were drafted.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised based on the evaluation of Beaulieu being a bust but Huberdeau and Despres too?

The question: If Gallant becomes coach in Florida would they be interested in trading for Beaulieu? Cuz I'm still very interested in getting Gudbranson in a habs jersey.

If Montreal is willing to let him go without too much of a fight, I'd say he's replaceable.

I think that it could be great news. If Therrien isn't going, might as well bring in a fresh face that "could" potentially challenge Therrien and bring in some new ideas.

I use to like Gallant until the PP tanked and no changes were made.

I wish JJ gone tho.

Defense transition game consists of hope and prayer lob pass.

Defensive zone coverage consists of dropping everyone below the faceoff circles yet somehow leaving the entire slot open and everyone standing still hoping to block shots.

I could have coached that team to 3 straight 1st overall finishes. The team was one of the best junior teams assembled imo. Jurco/Huberdeau/Beaulieu/Phillips/Galiev/Despres etc etc etc. It would have took a special kind of idiot to screw up that team.
