Post-Game Talk: Panthers at Rangers

Ya know. Classic Rangers.

They did play a good game. But you can't be fighting for a playoff spot, as a supposed contender, and lose to the worst team in the conference. You can't.

Thought Gabby actually had a strong game. Also nice to see an 3rd line out there.

Whats worse? Accepting the inevitability or getting your hopes up?

When you say inevitable, you make it sound like there is some unwritten law that makes it impossible for us to overcome a deficit. Must be interesting to have this power of infallible and certain foresight.

I agree in theory but did you see our first 2 power plays...they were horrendous

Actually, yeah, and that's really my angle. 6 against 4 really doesn't seem like an advantage over 5 against 4 with this powerplay, while the yawning open cage at the other end is a real attraction.
If they scored, I would have jumped up and down, but when Hank skated off, I was kind of saying "now why do that?"

I'd sell him for the right package when the time comes and I'm a huge fan of the guy .

I wouldn't even know what a package would look like for the guy. He's the best there is. We need to change the way we play and start focusing on offense.

If it wasn't for Lundqvist we would be dead last in the league right now. If we can score 3, 4, 5 goals a game we'd be the best. The reason he looks off this season is because we can't score anything. So we lose 1-0, 2-1, 3-1, instead of winning 2-1, 3-2, 4-2.

He will stay in my opinion and personally goalies like him don't come around in three or four lifetimes and we're lucky to have him.

Do you know how many goals this team scored in the past 6 games? 6.
Do you know that this "team" hasn't scored a goal in the third period in 5 games?

This system is clearly not cutting it with this group.

Either open the offense up or get the skilled players out of here, and get grinders in here who can play in this type of "system".
Can't have a combination of 3 talented players and 9 muckers and grinders.

I think this is kind of how I feel. The Rangers either have to have a "system" built around a player (a la the Devils) or they need to play to their roster's strengths. The Rangers are kind of doing neither.

Either build around Henrik and the D (so we roll 6 D-Men that would otherwise be 20+ minute top pairing players) or build around finesse forwards. We have, really, three players (Lundqvist, Gaborik, Nash) whom you can say are almost certainly among the 5 best in the world at what they do (goalie, sniper, dangler), and yet, we're really not putting any of them in a position to succeed beyond what their individual talents allow.

Of course he's on his way to the HOF . But if he would wanna leave and the team decided to explore I'm sure there would be a taker with a boat load of young talent

games like this, bring me to the painful realization that this may very well be a lost season. Despite the fact that they can cobble a few wins here and there, how do you lose to the worst team in the conference?

The players are not excelling in this system and the results keep compounding the fact that the players don't believe they can win with this system.

Tortorella is absolved from all offensive duties for a team that can barely score 2g with three top 3 forwards....

I was right.

Florida has a sub-75% PK. 3 powerplays. No goals. The Flowerplay is officially back.

The flowerplay. I love it!

Gotta love the move of the game. Gaborik splitting the defense to trickle a puck into Markstrom's pads.

Gaby had a lot of chances and a confident Gaborik probably nets 3 in a game like that but he's clearly fighting it and when he can't score his softness is just unbearable to watch.

Just as easily as they lost to Buf and their back up hi hadn't won in 18 straight

Take the "trade Lundqvist" discussion to the "Be a GM" trade thread. This thread is to discuss the game that just took place, not trading players.

I was right.

Wonderful. I'm glad that you get some odd enjoyment out of the notion. I can't fault you for feeling down on the team or pessimistic, but to flex this odd triumph over me because I dared to have faith in my team is ridiculous.

"We're just trying to find our way here"

From the coach after every loss. Meanwhile there's 18 games left in the season and the Rangers are out of the playoff picture. Half the season is gone and we're still trying to find our way?

Yikes.

I have hopped on the Fire Torts bandwagon.

But it's not going to happen until probably next season if the team struggles early. And please get rid of Gaborik.

Oh yeah for sure. The sky would be the limit honestly. I could see other GMs just pointing to their roster and saying, "choose".

But in my crazy and happy world I see him resigning and retiring a Ranger.

Even if we miss the playoffs and Columbus does in fact get the first overall pick, Torts will be back for next season.:shakehead
