Boyle was good? I was at the game. He made one good power move to the net and got off a weak shot. Aside from that he sucked. the only scoring chances that line produced were when JT and CK left Boyle out of the play and moved the puck amongst themselves. And don't tell me how good his defense was because it just wasn't. His puck skills are not improving and everyone was bad on draws last night; or so it seemed. Haven't seen the numbers. Gaborik was the team's best forward, except for the two glorious chances he botched; one from Richie and the other from Nash. But he battled.
This team's defense only, puck protection system SUCKS. Other teams go for puck possession which leads to skating and passing and shooting. We just aim to protect the puck which leads to never ending board work, bad angle shots and turnovers. Our D rarely jumps in when when there are three on threes behind the net. So when we do emerge with the puck there is no one to pass to. Our entire team is so scared to get caught that we play over the top conservative. This is Torts. He needs to go and stop telling me about play away from the puck until our play with the damn thing improves.

whoa hold up... that's on the players man. the coach stays out of the way for that stuff.
that scoring stuff is on them. you get to work and play defense.... barely.

Those pesky PP's, get them over with so we can go back to dumping the puck to other teams Dmen.
But it's not really a two man as we are used to it. The defending team can still get into the box and there's not that much room unlike a 5 on 3. So, to pull Hank with over a minute left was probably a panic move. Maybe with 30 seconds or so you go for it. but that was too early.

Does not matter, if we got the puck low they still would've been in the box. If they lose possession its much easier to recover down low than up high at the point where we have one man.

I believe thats one of the reasons why Nash's play has fallen off. He needs the puck in open space with speed to do what he does. It would benefit Richards and Gaborik as well (dare I say).
Come to think of it, Hagelin is great in open space too. Stepan can pass off the rush and Kreider can fly... hmmm .. maybe you've got something there.
We have the speed in the top 6 to really open it up, but they refuse to do so. This pre-Pre-lockout grinding crap is not working. Guys have room to skate now with the way things are being called by the refs...OPEN IT UP.
Weak chances, bad angle shots, really only about 2-3 good scoring opportunities in 45 shots....ugly...I felt like throwing the remote thru the tv

Though that 'giveaway' stat is a bit misleading. Yes they have few turnovers, but when you rarely have possession of the puck your giveaways will be low.

i caught the last 5 of the first period and the whole second. thats all i could stomach. my friend didn't want to watch anymore because it was depressing (and hes a ****ing coyotes fan)

i've been ultra negative this year so i always laugh when people think we're "righting the ship" after a win or 2 and then we go out and play like that. embarrassing.
I didn't buy that for a second. The Rangers had massive problems in both of the wins earlier in the week.
Nothing changed, but Hank stood on his head. Plus, they got some key bounces...

I like Torts, really I do. I love his pressers, love the fact he's not buying into the media BS. Love the fact he played minor league hockey in my hometown. Winningest US coach.
But.
The fact he REFUSES to adapt his style to his personnel is a major part of the issue this season. I called for Renney's head for a year before he got canned, and I don't want to call for Torts' but something needs to change. Guys are afraid to be creative offensively, afraid to shoot it on the PP ( Thanks Sullivan ).
Richards is done. Gaborik can return to form if he was turned loose a bit. Nash will lose his spark as well if this keeps up. He needs room to skate and create and this system simply won't support that.

I can't say which players are "done" or not. Honestly, we can give a solid answer unless Torts is removed from the equation.
I can only say that I think certain guys can't or won't play in Torts system anymore..
