Post-Game Talk: Panthers at Rangers

What bothers me is that we have gassed players on the ice all the time.

I mean, if you play the way we do -- you gotta have players on the ice that ain't gassed. FLA could keep us on the outside all the game. 45 shots or not, we barely threatened them.

We have a roster that easily should be top 4 in the East. You think we have holes, look at the other teams.

Torts just not doing a good job at all. We started to do well after a bad start WHEN he spread the ice more. It just don't work to roll 2 lines in the NHL 2013. This is not me saying, we are the team in the league that spread the ice time the least. This is 29 other coaches in the NHL saying.

We do not have a top roster, half the forward group couldn't score in a soccer net if they tried.

Unwatchable
I can't remember the last time I didn't FF through large stretches of the game.
Tort's system and fear of his dog house has neutered the team!

Such a typical Rangers game.

Last season was an aberration. Get rid of Torts, move some of the crap from the top of the roster. I'd say get rid of Slats but that won't happen.

I liked Torts but the lack of creativity on this team comes down to the style the coach wants this team to play. I think the time has come for this team to move on without him.

Oh you mean that play when a defenseman launches a pass up the middle, Richards deflects it into the corner to nash who passes across to gaborik for a goal, that play that worked twice against the bruins that was too offensive and didn't have enough jam in it, goals/scoring chances came to easy. Why in the hell would we have set offensive plays when grinding out goals fits the system better. #tortslogic

Funny! Sadly though, this would sum things up. I think every coach in the NHL has this same mentality. Time for Torts to be moved along, and like I said earlier, trade everyone you can for picks and prospects.

That was a true 3 line game from Tortorella. Hagelin is going to need an ice bath, he played Kovalchuk minutes today.

18 games to play. 10 wins is no promise of the playoffs. NYR will likely have to win 12 to get in comfortably.

I heard on NHLN that 55, 56 points are need it to make the playoffs.

This game reminded me of another Ranger loss to Florida back in 2003. It was mid March and we needed points badly, just a few points out of the last playoff spot. That Florida team was 3rd worst in the Conference. They beat us 2-1 at MSG. I remember thinking 'what good are the playoffs if this team can't beat Florida?'. We lost so many games after that, the Isles took the #8 spot.

Lost out on the playoffs that year and lost out on top ten pick in the draft by trying to put together wins at the end of that season. That was the Jessiman draft, also missing out on Shea Weber by one draft slot in round 2.

Don't worry we are going to make Columbus even better with our pick in the 10-15 range

Blow this thing up please .tjry are not making the playoffs

And on the off chance they do make the playoffs, they'll get disemboweled by Pittsburgh, Boston, or Montreal.

I think I was at that game

I do remember when Tortarella was hired it was because he was going to be offensively aggressive and exciting - now the team is completely predictable and about as exciting as watching grass grow.

yeah, i remember that too. in particular, the defense was being sent in to attack/pinch on every possession. i thought it was actually effective. then they started to regress back into a phalanx. not sure what happened there. seems now the players are just so afraid of making a mistake on defense and getting benched they wont possibly take a chance offensively... until they're completely backed-up against the wall. then, like last night, they look good in the last 10 mins...

exactly. It seemed we played better when the ice time was spread around. He doesn't trust his bottom 6. That's been the story all season.

Meh. To be honest, I'm not that upset. Rangers didn't actually play that poorly, and we know there's more to them than this.

I'm not worried.

i know how you feel...but i think that, most nights, they play hard and well defensively. it's just the offense...and i'm starting to worry that, without the coach making changes, that may never come around.

Hopefully Slats gives up the day to day operations to Gorton. Glen is almost 70. He is a millionaire. He still remains team president. The prostate cancer. Go smell the roses in La Quinta.

In no way I blame the players ......

Every team the Rangers played are better, Rangers zone is where the play is, still we have high end talents and one of the 3 major goal scorers in the league, still you blame them. Do you not think it is the godd..... bs system?

I never liked Torts, and never will like him, his defensive coward and boring way of playing is not paying off anymore, infact it killed the total offense this team has. I hope they lose 5 more so they get rid of him and then get a coach that plays a good passing, attacking style of game, skill game that is, no more dumping and chasing the puck style, you can find cheaper and harder working players for Torts his system.

I still stand by this team, but not with this coach. Get a unexperienced new coach from the AHL, maybe an ex star player that understands the game.

Build your team around Gaborik, use him to his abilities and he will score 40 goals a season if he is injury free.

Scott Gordon
Mark Hunter ( London)
Maybe Guy Boucher if he gets canned .
Paul Maurice
No, to Ruff no to Keenan .
I'm sure he no interested but I really think Dave Maloney would be a terrific coach , he's upbeat , positive and knows the game

Thanks for replying. Damn. That's unfortunate. I've only caught about six games this year, off my usual pace due to having less nights where my team isn't playing and yours is (wi the condensed schedule),,, so my finger is off the proverbial pulse in comparison to normal

To be honest, we sort of deserve it for giving a player past 30 that contract. Still, who could have predicted he'd decline this quickly? Perhaps he's just having a bad year, but after seeing how quickly Drury and Gomez dropped off....

Who knows, maybe we have a center iceman free agent curse here in New York.

I said this would happen if they gave him more than 5 years. No one saw this happening in year 2. Unbelievable. This is why you don't get superstar money to players who are not superstars.
