GDT: Panthers at Leafs, 8PM

Honestly our guys have never self labeled themselves outside of being physical and being hard to play against

Every other thing is media labeled.

Consequently, that means the team has earned the reputation by their acts on the ice and not by saying “we are physical too”l.”

He’s trying to defuse an aura created by the media and not one driven by our players. To the same effect, he’s trying to create an aura for his team. Fair, that’s what a coach does.

TLDR, this really didn’t take anything away from our team or earn Toronto anything

I agree: it's no secret that we're physical and hard to play against, and we play an aggressive style of hockey. This whole narrative of us being "mean" is a sports narrative that feels overblown - like the only reason we're sucessful is because we're bullies on the ice. [shakes head] It can be fun to play into that as a fan, but it's pretty tiresome when people genuinely believe it.

BTW, are we back to thinking Ekblad being out for this game is an advantage for us ;) ?

need to take both on the road so we can have our usual shit the bed at home game

I think that home ice is an advantage only for game 7. I don't have stats to back it up though, but that's my "feeling", for what it's worth.

I'm happy they start this series on the road. Panthers may be the favorite to win this series, but the pressure is on the leafs. It's way more important for them to win it than it is for us.

I think that our depth negates home ice to a certain extent. Also, I think the Leafs have a lot more pressure at home, so it might actually be an advantage for us to start on the road - we're a pretty good road team.

And I sort of agree - while it will be annoying to lose to the Leafs [grrr - picturing my cousins' faces here], we're not about to get our franchise blown up if we do. That's aside from the fact that there is undeniably a lot more pressure in Toronto as a normal state of being.

Yeah like I said in the other thread, they're just trying to play Panthers hockey, but we do it better and we've done it longer.

This chart is just insane. Basically they kept at it even though they sucked at it.

We are also first in the playoffs in hits, Toronto 12th.

And they bleed chances 5v5. Leafs fans will tell you that is their new style, but its real tough to go 4 rounds like that, we know that from experience.
