That was pretty disappointing, they boys shouldn't have bothered coming out after the second intermission, weak.

The sweet goal by Pearson and Brown wreaking people were the highlights.

Budaj with the softies didn't help matters, that Barkov (I kept hearing Markov for some reason :)) goal just set the tone for the 3rd period.

Budaj may have maxed out. I agree with questioning why another netminding option hasn't been brought in. Zatkoff has been poor, Budaj has been overworked.

These losses are still great experience for Kempe and Ladue, I'd keep them around for a few more. A nice gritty rival game with the ducks is probably just what this team needs, it would also be a great eye opener for the newbies.

So it's going to come down to us vs. Calgary, mano-a-mano. One team makes the playoffs, the other team gets sent to the dungeon.

McElhinney had a .890sv% last year. Hammond has Zatkoff-like numbers this year. Condon has the same career numbers as Zatkoff does. There was no reason to think Zatkoff was going to be terrible. There's no guarantee anyone else wouldn't be the same. Budaj is struggling again.

Could Lombardi have done that? I guess? Should Lombardi give up another draft pick for a team that had plenty of questions coming into the season? Few want him to do anything for a rental.

all your examples are great

but LA's a team that can make almost any goalie look good, so it's not accurate to compare stats like that

the list i gave you are actual NHL backup goaltenders

Budaj is an AHL backup goaltender

and if two goalies suck, you get a third, if three goalies suck you try a 4th, etc

we've had teams before were 6 goaltenders were tested

to stand pat with two when one **** the bed big time (Zat)

and Budaj is stumbling

i'm sorry but I have to call you a Lombardi apologist

So in 2010 we traded down at the draft to get Bjugstad, which gave you guys the pick for Forbert.

I always thought he was Mcilrath 2.0, but he played a ton of minutes, including the last minute and a half.

Where's he at now? Middle pair guy?

I know he had good advanced stats, but it's cool he's turned into something

Everyone is pissing on Budaj but where is the defense? First goal was their best player with a perfect shot from the dot right into the corner. Second goal was a guy wide open in the slot.

He's actually been very solid playing with Doughty, grown much more than I expected in his first full season

You can call me as you like, but a lot of people don't want Lombardi giving up any picks for rentals. There was no reason to think Zatkoff would be this bad on a goalie friendly team. If he is, and Budaj is up and down, maybe they're not as friendly a team anymore. They can help make Quick look average at times.

Quick couldn't bail the Kings out in 14-15 when Kopitar had 16 goals. This year, Kopitar has 6, and Gaborik has 6(had 27 in 14-15), so I'm not betting that Condon would save the team. He couldn't save Montreal last year. The Kings are right now on pace for about the same record as a Price-less Habs team. They even averaged more goals than the Kings are this year.

Maybe the Kings are playing very conservative because Quick isn't in net, so Kopitar can't drive the net, but I don't know what Carter's and Pearson's excuses are. Any time Mr. Captain, aka highest paid player in the league. 6 goals, and 2 in the 15 games(an 11 goal pace) before his wrist injury.

And then sends Nick Shore out there.

Kings didn't show up in the 3rd vs. a team that played the night before.

And while I love Doughty, it's games like this where you just wish he played more like Karlsson and Burns. He waits until there is 50 seconds left to rush the puck up the ice and carry it in deep. Wish there were more offensive chances taken in the 3rd in games we're down.

Even in the first, he gets the puck , doesn't even wait until traffic develops or drag the puck along the blueline, just shoots a harmless shot on net. Luongo had a great clear view of his golf swing of a shot.

We can talk about Budaj all we want, but this teams' problem again tonight was scoring.

Hard to win when you only score two, and the only reason they got that many was because Shore got pushed onto Luongo giving King an open net.

Dude. Goaltending is killing the team right now. Even Enroth was on waivers and cleared. That would have cost nothing in picks. Sutter has run Budaj into the ground and it shows.

They just can't catch up with themselves. Everything on this team is getting canceled out by something this year. Carter/Kopitar. Pearson/Gaborik. Budaj/Zatkoff. Win 5 in a row, lose 4 out of the next 5.

That's the best description I've seen, wow.

Everyone is pissing on Budaj but where is the defense? First goal was their best player with a perfect shot from the dot right into the corner. Second goal was a guy wide open in the slot.

First goal is something an NHL goalie SHOULD have. But Budaj isn't, so it's 50-50. I figured going into the year that this is who he was--prone to getting sniped on clean looks. So fine. The second one I'd LIKE him to have but no, I agree, that's one that'll normally go in. but the third? Backbreaking and awful. And all in combination, especially the first and third, you're not gonna win many games with that.

At least in terms of scoring chances against and similar metrics, this is our best D since 2012 and I think that passes the eye test. There were some catastrophic breakdowns on the roadtrip, but in general, they've been awesome. Just an observation.

again all this is fine

but the players i listed, were available on waivers and would have fit out cap

so no picks would have been given up for rentals

we have no problems burying Scuderi in the minors when things don't go well

i fail to comprehend how testing Hammond would have been against LA's short term or long term plans

if he ended up worse than Zatkoff... (call me crazy but i highly doubt that)

then he simply follows Scuderi's path

and it wouldn't have cost of a lot of money (and yes we have the cap!)

Disagree completely about the first goal. On the rush, at the dot, best player, top corner. It's easy to blame the goalie but if the team doesn't play like ******** then the 3rd goal is actually the first.

And Sutter didn't play Enroth when he was here. Goaltending is killing them now, offense has killed them more than once this season. Running Budaj into the ground, and Kopitar has 6 goals. It's not just any one thing that has the Kings at 17-25 in regulation.

Not sure awesome is a word I'd use. When the 3 most experienced guys have been up and down, that's not going to help a 34 year old backup. No doubt Budaj and Zatkoff can be shaky though.

Hammond has a worse sv% than Zatkoff. Is it because of the Hamburglar thing? Zatkoff never had less than a .910sv% at any level before this season. I get wanting to throw the darts and see if something sticks, but Kopitar and Gaborik have 12 combined goals. Maybe another goalie would help. If Kopitar and Gaborik had 8 more goals between the two of them, maybe that would help too.

He didn't play Enroth much because he had Quick. Jeez. Offense is a problem but it isn't the showstopper. Kings won a cup with a much crappier offense than they have now. Budaj is a sieve right now and he needs relief.

Kopitar is on pace for 9 goals still. Unless he magically starts scoring goals this team is going no where. No trade is going to help this team unless they somehow add someone like Duchene for no roster players (which won't happen).

People including me can **** on the gaborik and brown contracts, but imo kopi is their biggest reason they aren't going anywhere. Must be nice getting paid a million dollars for every goal he scores...

The problem is our coach has zero confidence in the back up, and losing confidence in Budaj when he lets in a bad goal.

He would have to score 14 goals this year for that to happen.

Maybe next year when he only has to hit the 13 goal mark.

Random thought, could the Kings swap Budja for Bishop [or trade for him without Budaj in the mix], and what would be his cap hit the remainder of the year? I know Quick is coming back, but it would give the Kings some stability while he gets into form. #thinkingoutloud

Team is going nowhere with Kopi not scoring, Gaborik being invisible, and crappy goaltending, period.

Carter carrying the team on his back and Budaj having a lucky horseshoe up his backside wasn't going to last forever.

Sutter should be fired for continuing to put Martinez and Muzzin together, it's beyond ridiculous at this point

I'm praying Vegas takes McNabb.

Kempe is not an NHL player at this point

Gravel should NOT be sitting

Sell, sell, sell
