Confirmed with Link: Panarin taking leave of absence from NYR (Warning in First Post)

There are already a handful of people involved that have PUBLICLY spoken out against these allegations. If you're not paying attention to twitter, then don't come here to ask silly questions. Ask on twitter and get roasted. =P

Yeah he was. I remember him from his time in the AHL where he was a prodigious fighter. He has a bunch of scraps with Biznasty (Bissonnette) that I remember because Biz was a lot bigger. But, most of the guys he scrapped with were much bigger. Tough dude. He's another guy who got messed up from scrapping so much.

The number of real journalists has shrunk, but that's solely because of the death of the newspaper industry. When they're all gone, we're doomed.
 
Sorry if this was asked and or answered but I do not understand why he is not playing. If the piece is not true and meant to hurt Pan then why give them what they want? If he is innocent and I assume he is then I would like to see him on the ice. I say that not only as a fan but because its nuts to give alleged liars what they want.

It would just be a PR nightmare for him to be around the team at the moment. Big distraction to the coaching staff and teammates, on top of himself. Not an uncommon practice for him to step away.

Even if it's all a big lie and he's innocent.

The story is out there whether he plays or not. In my opinion if he is innocent he should live his life as normally as possible. What does he gain by sitting out? If anything it makes people wonder why he is sitting out.

Agree with everything here. It should be addressed as the nonsense it is and back to business as usual. Panarin doesn’t strike me as a guy that would get “ post traumatic stress” from an article. I don’t understand the leave one bit.

Easy to say from the outside looking in. I’m thinking it’s just not that simple...hopefully none of us ever have to be in his shoes in this situation....but if any of us would be accused of something as heinous as this - even if completely innocent - can’t imagine you could live life as “normally as possible”.

An allegation was made by a 3rd party who claims to be a witness, no corroborating evidence to this point has been made available, maybe because it does not exist.

Yet if some sort of corroboration does come about, even if fabricated or coerced in some way, the organization can not be accused of ignoring the allegation, the player choose to take a leave.

No. If some government entity was in on it they would've produced a victim. And they'd have the police 'verify' what happened. Instead we have a well known lunatic (Nazarov) making crazy accusations that nobody is backing up or believing.

Panarin is looking pretty good in the eyes of the Russian sports fans right now. 80% believe Panarin over Nazarov on sports.ru poll.

Nazarov is digging his own grave. He finally stepped over the line. Good riddance to that meathead.

I understand your point but we used to say innocent until proven guilty. It feels weird to me that he is not playing. Its almost giving it life. If it was me and I was totally innocent I would say this is absolute lie and then go about my life. Now if there is something there that would be different but if Pan says its a lie and the team believes him than what good comes from sitting out?

My buddy was once accused of calling a female sales lady the bword. It was totally made up but he got really upset. I was there so I knew it was a lie but her coworker came out and made a scene. Turned out the lady just wanted to go home early. A week later she admitted it and apologized in her bosses office.
Sadly sometimes people do make false allegations. I still dont know what is gained by sitting out if 100% innocent.
 
If lies and slander is left unchallenged, they get louder and louder until at some point they start sticking and doing real damage.

This Nazarov guy has been doing this for years and now he just went too far, and forcing Panarin to deal with it.

It's not just affecting Panarin, but his family is also affected by it mentally, and there is also risk of potential physical danger caused by some lunatic Nazarov sympathizer.
So I think Panarin had to stop, take time off, and take care of this guy once and for all.

I don't know what options he has. I guess he has to ensure his family is safe, and he will probably pursue some legal actions.
