If you're not already a contender, you run into the Ottawa Chychrun dilemma. You trade a nice package for a guy because you think you're getting pretty close, but you don't take a step forward and then you're selling for pennies on the dollar before he can walk. A team like Montreal, for instance, would need to be VERY CAREFUL about making an aggressive move at this time. You can't extend Andresson until July this summer. Maybe you already know that.
How many teams would make the trade now... but get assurance from Andersson that he is very much interested in extending?
Any inkling on whether Weegar might move or waive his NTC if they asked?
I'd sooner try to trade for Weegar if it was remotely possible. He's only got 6 years left at a lower contract number and he will be 37 when the deal expires.
With Andersson, if you trade for him and sign him you're basically committing for 9 years (1 year left plus 8 year extension) at a higher number than Weegar. He would also be 37 when that 8 year extension expires.
Team too bad for us to rise. Wolf too good for us to slip. Welcome to the flame zone
Plus young LHD who can play both sidesI'd do that. Lower 1st but better prospect
Would Calgary be interested in Power for Andersson?
Buffalo wouldn't
Would Calgary be interested in Power for Andersson?
Well I'm not sure yet that he will start next season in Buffalo. There were rumors that he will be looking for a 1D role and PP1 time, that is not happening in Buffalo. Maybe it's just agent play or something. Why is buffalo trading Byram? Don't think he'll resign?
Maybe others can chime in but is the gap between Andersson and Byram really a 1st and a prospect?Buffalo should be all over it. Byram + 1st + a prospect. Byram is from Calgary. Andersson pairs with Dahlin and makes the Rasmus squared pair.
Teams don't trade grade A prospects, unless you have a REALLY low definition of a grade A prospectYeah wouldn’t do it for me, don’t love the depth of the draft this year. I’d be fine with a later first and a grade A prospect in a position we need more than a first 10 picks higher
The problem is that Andersson is only signed for a year and a half. And we don't know how Byram will look at it.I figure they wouldn't. I would rather play a player with a pulse like Andersson though.

They are just beginning to crater outWeird that Andersson would "welcome a trade" why doesnt he want to stay long term in Calgary?
Meh. Couple late 1sts1st and Ekblad (retained 50%).
Extend him, or flip him at the deadline at 25% for another 1st+

Pagnotta says he has been open to getting traded for a couple of seasons now...

Could be his way of giving the franchise notice that he doesn't intend to re-sign and hang around for the rebuild. If so, that's a solid thing to do.
Yeah, the super quick re-tool where they traded a top six centre, two top 4 dman, a starting goalie, and didn’t replace any of them and kept 20 million of cap space. The Flames should be a bottom ten team but goalies and hustle are keeping them high. What rebuild?
Flames are not rebuilding with Huberdeau, Weegar, Kadri, Backlund, Coleman on the roster. They will do a quick retool. Andersson seems young enough to be part of that.
and Pagnotta says its been a couple of seasons now that Andersson would welcome a trade..
Why does he seem eager to want out? I thought he was one of the lifers in CGY as he was drafted and developed by the team.
