lol what

you're not acquiring him just right now. you're acquiring the whole contract. what freak logic is this
Logic is several teams are desperate for top 6 centers. If he was a UFA this offseason he'd probably get 7x5, which is what's remaining on his contract.

Is this Pagnotta speculating on something he heard or is he speculating based on Button saying yesterday the Leafs should be trying to get him out of Calgary?

Gotta think we’d be taking a big cap dump back to balance the cap hits and bring back some value.

Merzlinkins, Skinner (if he waives), Gallagher, Copp, Norris, Josh Anderson, Jarry all come to mind

As long as they're only 2 or 3 years that's fine

I'd happily roll the dice on Norris. Could get lucky

Is the UFA market for Top-6 Centers really so insane that teams would actually look at Kadri's contract and not immediately vomit?

This would be a Karlsson/Burns type favor trade, since you don't get any real pieces of your future for a soon to be 34 year old with 5 years left. They might get some 2025 or 2026 conditional 1st rd pick, and some roster filler to make the cap work, with retention.

High end, they luck out like Ottawa with SJ's pick. Most likely, a mid-teens/early 20's pick, and if that guy ends up as a 2nd liner in 6 years, you take it and run.

Even though he's gonna get paid alot late in his 30s, it seems like some teams will actually be pretty interested

Lindholm is getting 8M+ long term. Kadri had the better season and is better offensively and better at irritating other people. Lindholm is better at PK and faceoffs. Similar caliber players.

If this is true and Kadri wants out, I hope Conroy gets creative and take on a crazy return of shorter-term cap dumps to maximize value.

Something like Kadri to Columbus for Merzlinkins+Laine+young player/pick

Or

To Montreal for Gallagher+Xhekaj+pick

Something crazy like that

Kadri had arguably his best seasOn this year. Sure the last year or two might be not great but I think he’ll be a third line C at worst in those years. He’ll get something good if they trade him

Very very arguable, considering he almost had a 90 pt season and won a cup while scoring at PPG in the playoffs 2 years ago.

But ya he’ll get something decent if we take a shorter term but still expensive cap dump back

It sounds more like he's just not going to be moved.
Probably not. He loves playing with the young guys and it revitalized him.
Also why the f*** would Calgary ever have to retain? $7m for a 2C isn't a bad contract when 3Cs are getting 5m+

The contract in which he is paid a ton of money to his late 30s isn't working out!?
View attachment 888630

The contract is working out fine - Kadri led the team in scoring by nearly 20 points.

He shows no signs of slowing down, has no history of leg injuries or concussions, and will be an effective player for the next five years, even if he’s not a #1C.

If he were UFA this year, some team would give him 5x$7M and they wouldn’t regret it.

He played with Rantanen and Landeskog/Nuke and on the Avs scary PP.

He played with Zary and Pospisil on the Flamess anemic pp. it was just as good as that year if not better.
