Indeed he has been lackluster and Tkatchuk fully deserves the C for the upcoming season, leading the team both mentally and on-ice. Barkov is a fantastic regular season performer, but if the Panthers want to go for cup runs they need to consider some fundamental changes in the off-season.

Who he? Another soft euro

- Not a 2-way beast, most lethal shot, most goals in playoffs MAtty Papiii
- Not a playoff warrior, only legit selke winner, coming back from injury leading his team to series win - good old canadian kid Bergeron

Just plain old soft no points overrated Barkov. God I hate that Barkov.

Nah, they're in the finals because Bob was standing on his head in 2 series.

It doesn't work like that, stellar goalie performance needs responsible team support, did you miss Lyon was standing on his head too last weeks, before post season. Barkov (amongst others) is team first player and his influence has been grown inside his team, I will repeat myself; listen what Paul Maurice is telling. There is several leaders in Florida team and Barkov is very special and important player.

Uh-huh. Barkov is paid 10 million dollars for loose puck recoveries and his offensive stats disappearing is not a problem.
you do realize it’s the finals… none of these guys are getting paid their salaries right now and it really doesn’t matter, it’s win or go home.
If you don’t think that Barkov, despite no offense, hasn’t been huge, then you clearly have not paid attention to the state of the Panthers defense.

The game really happens away from the puck. Watch Barkov and learn how the game is played close to perfection. He's simply an awesome hockey player. Also in these playoffs.

Him against Eichel is pure hockey porn. Beautiful stuff back and forth.
Still, if the Panthers lose the cup to the Knights, then people are going to wonder if Barkov going 0+0 in the first 3 games had something to do with it. He's still the captain, he's still their number 1 center, he's still paid 10 mil. Sure, he's great away from the puck. Sure, he's great defensively.

I mean I like Barkov. Always have, but him dissappearing in the playoffs for a few games in a row is a bit concerning. Anyway, I hope Florida wins and Barkov gets to hoist the cup.

One time Barkov came to my store, he fart in tip cup. I so angry, but then Barkie says “do you smell anything?” And I breathe, and there is nothing. “Not even my farts are of material substance” he says. Then with a twinkle in his eye he skates away. I don’t even own a store. Barkie did all that away from reality. He is simultaneously the best and worst man I have ever known.

I agree. The usual suspects, that don't let the fact that they didn't watch the games stop them from authoritatively commenting on them, will definitely point the finger at Barkov.

The people that actually watched the series will point out two very important things that don't turn up in Barkov's stats.

1) He was Florida's best player in Game 1 and Game 2.
2) The Panthers won Game 3, so saying that they lost the series because he didn't have a point in Game 3 is beyond stupid.

Ironic thing is fans posting these things, advanced stats saying he was actually good. But then when the convo switches to Matthews none of those things mattered he actually secretly sucks despite the stats saying he is also elite defensively.

The funny thing is, despite Barkov playing in the finals right now and Matthews being out in 5 games of round 2, Matthews still has more goals than Barkov and only 3 less points. Yet Matthews is the big choker.

Well good for him being Florida's best player in Game 1 and Game 2. Cookie for him I guess?

I'm sure he's going to be at home smiling about this fact if they lose. At least I was f***ing awesome in those games where I scored 0 points. f*** off, this is pro sports, not a rec league. I mean I know where you're coming from being used to the fact that Toronto is always planning the parade in october and always falling short. "At least we played awesome, just got unlucky, well let's plan the parade again next october".

1st 2yrs 2013-2015:

125gp 24g 36a 60p -7

Yrs 2015-2023:

539gp 219g 352a 571p +97

"Nowehere near ppg player!" "Full bust" "Matthews is WAAY better 2-way" etc.

Barkov helped shut him down in round 2,
which was his main focus.

Panthers weren’t going to try and trade chances with the Leafs.

What do the Toronto Maple Leafs have to do with anything?

Why are you talking to me about the Leafs? Did you get lost in this thread somewhere?

Using Barkov's career p/gp is misleading considering the vast majority of his playoff sample size is from his scoring prime, in a vastly higher scoring era. Barkov's first few years as a ~.5 p/gp player really drag down his career p/gp in regular season, but not in the playoffs.

Barkov has been a top 10-15 offensive player in the regular season at his best and certainly flirted with 100-point level while providing elite two-way game. It's his elite offense combined with his elite defence which gained him notoriety as arguably a top 5 player in the game.

It's ridiculous to suggest that he deserves no scrutiny for disappearing offensively in the big games. Tkachuk's historically clutch scoring and Bobrovsky standing on his head got Florida to the finals and Barkov will receive criticism if he can't step up and lead his team.

Theres more ways to help your team win than goals and assists.

Whatever Matthews did, his team failed. Again. Coupled with what appears to be a lack of urgency and low effort, he deserves the criticism.

Barkov however has a.chance.to.win the cup.

I'm sorry that you still haven't processed how or why the Leafs franchise were obliterated by Sasha and Co, but I can assure you, they fought it out, and the better team with better players won. Hopefully the player you adore who let you down doesn't flee. Barkov is fighting for the Stanley Cup. I hope you enjoy the show, and that you're ok.
