His defensive game is nothing short of great these playoffs, sans the first few Boston games where he was sick or something.

Offensively, I wish he would be a tad more selfish as he does have a great shot and I think at this point defensemen and the goalie thinks he's going to pass first so he could surprise Hill a few times.

Barkov is one of those players that if he wasn’t on florida anymore everyone would notice. Even some of our own fans who think he’s pretty replaceable. He is a great player. Yes he drives you nuts sometimes with his overpassing but I have definitely seen an evolution in his game this playoffs. He is way more physical.

Patrice Bergeron has a career regular season scoring rate of .8 per game. That drops to .75 in the playoffs

Barkov has a career regular season scoring rate of .95 per game. That drops to .78 in a small sample size of playoff games.

I wouldnt conclude much here other than scoring drops in the playoffs, and two way centers producing at over 3/4 of a point per game is probably a good thing for a team.

I haven’t looked, but have a feeling that Kopitar, O’Reilly, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Toews were all well under a point per game in the playoffs, while being massive parts of Cup winning teams.

Yeah, the ONLY player on the Panthers roster who was not a minus player in the first two finals and the best net scoring chance rate of their whole roster, while averaging 20 minutes per game and playing against the toughest opponents.

"But Tkachuck showed up". I hate how these narratives always ignore statistics.

No way Barkov executes that tap-in for the typing goal last night the way Tkachuk did.

If the dude just would f***ing shoot we'd be a better team by a mile compared to what we are now. Thats the biggest thing missing from his game at the moment.

All those players you mentioned had better playoff runs in terms of points and points per game in far lower scoring seasons though, he has simply not been as good as those players at their best at any point of his post-season career.

With the amount of criticism some other superstars like Auston Matthews have received for their playoff performance, Barkov's disappearing acts have really flown under the radar. 4 goals and 14 points going in 19 games is pathetic - and it's not the first time that Barkov's offensive game has not been there in the playoffs. He's far below a point per game for his career and only has 10 goals in 45 playoff games!

If Florida loses against Vegas as it looks like it's going to happen, it will be remembered that Bobrovsky and Tkachuk showed up while Barkov again failed to. The $10 million Captain getting blanked in another series.

I'm going to take a guess that you're not actually watching the Final.

Barkov was the best player for the Cats in the first two games and you'd have to be an absolute fool with no clue whatsoever what kind of player he was to think you would measure his worth in the playoffs by his offensive stats.

Are you familiar with Barkov as a player?

Are you actually watching the Final?

This is an absolutely bizarre thread.

I have no thoughts one way or another on Barkov but some posters need to realize forwards are paid big money for getting points
What? I thought they were paid to not score?

Seriously, Barkov needs to score points. He's the captain and paid 10 mil. Frankly, without Bob standing on his head 2 series in a row Barkov would be golfing right now.

If he had 2 more points we don’t have this thread I think. I would like to see him pot a couple more but Florida hadn’t exactly been scoring a lot while winning and that’s fine.

Zetterberg had 27 points in 22 games the year he won the Smythe.

His playoff numbers are almost exactly the same as his regular season numbers. The guy was a f***ing rock for us and made up for a lot of holes in the roster towards the end of his career.

Imagine Florida had Vegas‘ D corps.
Barkov wouldn‘t have to think D first.

Montour is good in the O zone, but no one would make an Allstar game.
They have Staal playing 21+ minutes ffs.

Vegas otoh has Pietro and Theo and the rest is still decent and build for playoff hockey.

In which realm, Toronto realm? Players are paid whatever they are paid and its between owner, GM and player for good sake

Barkov is consensus no.1 in two way game and he is paid for success, take a look what is happening

Everyone knows that Barkov is good defensively. That doesn't excuse his production falling off a cliff when the games matter relative to regular season.

20-23
Regular season 1.21 p/gp .476 g/pg
Playoffs .80 p/gp .20 g/pg

His regular season production is what got him paid 10 million and it's not there in the playoffs. Also looking kinda good in two games while not producing zilch is not enough, especially when his overall eye test in the playoffs has been very underwhelming compared to regular season.

If Barkov didn’t have a ~100 pt season and ppg for his career, he probably wouldn’t be getting paid what he is

And some need to realize that hot takes base on 3 game sample sizes is foolish. Barkov had 14 points in 16 games leading up to this series.
