Uh, yes. There's a massive gas in trade value between interchangeable 2nd line players and a true 1st line LW. If that package was offered for Parise or Koivu you'd also say no.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Spurgeon is heavily underrated in this situation. He's a 1st pairing dman. Coyle will be our 1st line right wing this year. Nino has been a part of every "hot" line the last couple of years since his possession skills are top notch. Patches isn't worth Spurgeon+Coyle+Nino, sorry.

It's simple. MTL overrates their players. Always have.

Actually the MTL valuation is pretty fair.

4.5mil for 35 goal scoring winger. That is at least 3-4 million of cap value, plus an elite winger.

35 goal scorer = Nino (25g) + 2nd pair D.

4mil cap value = (insert wild player here) = signing a 20/20 UFA winger

Russo wrote this article after talking with Fletcher and he has said several times since that he's been told the Wild WILL protect 7-3-1 - that allows the team to protect the greatest number of assets, so it only makes sense to go that route.

You really think that citing Russo's speculation is providing confirmation for the statement "the Wild have already stated they will be going 7/3/1"?

Look, if you want to say that the obvious choice would be to go 7/3/1, then just do that. Or, hell you could even say that the popular opinion, or the consensus seems to be that they will use 7/3/1. Just don't say something stupid like "the Wild have already stated". Why in the world would a NHL GM ever state his true intentions a full year before he needs to make those intentions known? If he were to actually say what you two are claiming, what do you suppose that would do to the trade value of any of his dmen currently?

Montreal
Pacioretty & 1st in 2017 for Scandella, Granlund & Niederriter

Helps with Minny's Expansion "problems" and they get very good contract with term while Granlund & Niederriter are RFA at the end of 2017.

Montreal fills out their Top 6 and moves Plekanec into 3C.

Radulov - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Niederriter - Granlund - Shaw

you're fired

Do you not know the difference between "They will" and "I think they will" or "I expect they will"?

One is a definitive statement of fact, the others are presentations of speculation.

When Russo is writing his articles, he is very particular about not presenting his speculations and guesses as fact, he only does that when he has confirmation. He interviewed Fletcher directly for this article before stating that as a fact.

Well since Spurgeon is already a top pairing defenseman we will count him as a top liner. Besides as some GM's have laid out top LW aren't worth as much as you may believe. Besides all 3 players in the deal are what 26, 24 and 23. No chance for a soon-to-be 29 year old LW period. Not when the Wild already have that position covered with Parise.

Russo has already stated also that they are planning to protect Tyler Graovac which is interesting for a guy with 0 goals and 0 assists in the NHL. He had to have heard that from someone high up in the org.
