P.K. Subban

Does anyone notice PK seems to get more stamina as the season progresses?
Not only that He is visually far more mobile even with his sore foot than when he broke camp.

Coming in camp bulked (and with a little more body fat) gives you more durability. PK knows that. I think he sacrified mobility in the early season to be able to finish the season on high horses, no matter how long it may be.

His playoffs will be monstruous. Unlike anything we've seen before for a Habs' D-man. That much I was sure of before the season started. I was laughing my ass off at that **** Tremblay who was criticizing PK for being rich ( 9M$, ça fait beaucoup pour un défenseur à risques... yeah right Mario, go back to polishing your Cup Rings)

Subban has done Markov's patented neutral zone stand to intercept breakout passes lately.

It's not talked about enough but Subban still takes dumb or unnecessary penalties. That part of his game has VASTLY improved from last year and even the year before showing that his game is definitely maturing, but there's still room to improve in that department. I think the reason why it's not talked about as much is that Habs have always been in the top 5 in penalty killing, mitigating the negative impact of those penalties. I am really happy with Subban's maturity at his age. But just wanted to point out this aspect of his current game, I think it's partly the reason why he gets criticized so much and that other markets never considered Subban as top 3 defensemen in the league. I think that's going to change in the next year. Anytime you hear the name Doughty or Weber, Subban's name will be right up there... Give it a year... unless he wins the Norris again (Subban point explosion to increase gap with Weber, combined with Giordano injury).

Should be nominated for the Norris, especially if he can keep this up over the last 20 games

And an interesting fact, over the past 2 years Subban has 46 points in 49 games against the Western Conference. If we make the finals, he'll have no problem dealing with them!

Did someone remember the fantastic goal camera angle by TSN last year?

The camera was perfectly aligned so the puck looked like it went straight up

I don't think any player sacrifice mobility. Doing that is the perfect way to increase injury.
People are reading too much into this. PK is just a player that improves as the games become more competitive. That's all. There's also the fact that the more he plays the better he becomes, he's mentioned this quite a few times already too.

I know Subban's goal last night seems pretty routine given the number of one-timed goals he has.

But I don't think people realize how much power/accuracy he had on that shot basically standing still and even moving slightly backwards.

Some players have harder shots, but I don't think anyone has mastered the art of the one-timer (at least other Dmen) quite like PK

I explained it badly.
I do think that unconsciously he started the season slowly and picked it up. But it's a fact that the grind of the season makes players lose weight. I was just pointing out that I think he bulked a bit more this summer.

Wasn't everyone saying he was not at his perfect weight at the season?

That shot reminded me Al MacInnis. He did not have the best shot but his one timer from the blue line while standing still or even moving backward was the best in class.

Yes, he has added that weapon to his arsenal. They've both been awesome for us. Thank god for them, because the rest of our D squad has been a circus.

Well, Mr. Lebowski called it: Subban's been good for most of the year. Not great but good enough to be hanging around. Now he's gotten really hot, Giordano is hurt and he's all of a sudden in a really good position to get his 2nd Norris.

A week ago you said he had regressed under Therrien. lol

The shot deflected off a stick...

A 2nd Norris would be great but I think there is a bias against Subban. A notion that he's not complete and his slight immaturity on the ice makes him public enemy from time to time.

I think he'd need to outscore the opposition by a fair margin for them to have no excuse but to vote him as the winner. I think he's capable.

Still, someone like Doughty has been getting huge praise this year, so he might be front runner.

If he gets a second Norris I'll bump that thread I made asking which current Habs players are on track to having their numbers retired.

Pretty sure some people said none.

There's a bias against him, the thing is that the safe bets for the Norris like Lidstrom, Chara, etc are no longer in the conversation.

Giordano, Letang, Karlsson, etc are all problematic.

If Shea Weber finishes top-3 in points he'll win for sure. He's 6'4, and a good ole (white) Canadian boy.

pretty solid season ^_^

And that basically says it all about using advanced stats out of context. Ryan Suter looks pretty terrible there. Even Weber, probably the leading Norris candidate looks mediocre.

Not trying to take a shot at you, as people constantly misuse them. I'll admit, I don't even know how to properly understand/apply them yet, but I haven't really given them much of a chance. I suppose the one positive is that those stats for Subban absolutely match the eye test though, but I wouldn't say that's necessarily the case for all the players you listed.

The white part is meh, not gonna get into it.

Still, Weber is often considered the best who has not won, always close but never getting it. If Subban(or anyone else) does not make a clear argument to be the front runner someone like Weber can get a reputation vote.

Karlsson likely isn't in top 5 for Norris voting. Letang should be top 5 though.
