There will probably be a dozen teams that want him and 3 or 4 that will really want him and that's what will drive the price up.

Take Toronto with Bell/Rogers ownership. If they sign Subban, they will probably make more from Leaf TV revenue going up then whatever they end up paying Subban in salary. So, why do they want to lowball an offer for Subban and taking a chance they don't land him?

And why would we even think about moving the kid if there's easily a dozen team interested in him??
If he attracts that much attention, maybe take a step back and look at the situation as a whole.

Dont be absurd. Prust has a role to play and he is doing very well in that role.

Read the thread started today about Practice. You will also find out the role of Prust when the Habs are not playing a game.

Prust is an impact player that is doing a lot to turn this franchise around.

You don't have any problem with Prust and his 0.2 PPG asking for, and receiving, 100%+ of his worth, but you expect Subban to sign for 50% of his worth, to help pay for Prust?

"Southern"? I'd say so.

happen sometimes that GM/Owners of other teams want X player so much they're willing to overpay badly.

You should be asking Bergevin that question because that's the hill he seems determined to die on.

I think that 80-90% of the fanbase here is pro-Subban, now that the 2.5 million dollar offer is confirmed.

The unanimity is approaching, but not yet equal to, that of our reaction to the McDonagh trade.

By reliable media sources.

Also note that Bergevin has not bothered refuting it, whereas Subban+Meehan very much did refute the Doughty rumour.

seriously, you're a scientist right ?

really, cause I'm starting to wonder if it's not just something made up.

that's where the RUMOR comes from, it's definitely not a confirmation or the rumor.

Dreger is pretty reliable. As far as media sources go, he's near the top, with people like Lavoie, etc as opposed to Eklund, Carbonneau, etc.

You can't expect Bergevin to spoonfeed you all the fact.

However, I suspect you may just be in denial. It's hard to accept that our GM may just be an incompetent and innumerate moron.

So what you're saying is you're willing to trade Subban for Rene Bourque? (2nd, 3rd line player with size)

If PK is traded (doubtful) it had better be for more than just a "2nd or 3rd line player with size".

I would hope a player like Subban could get you AT LEAST 1x 1st rnd pick and 1x blue chip prospect/young roster player.

Anyways there's still a lot of time left to negotiate before we have to go the trade route.

A 5 game winning/losing streak can change the dynamic. Just like 1 injury on the blue line could change the dynamic.

someone said on another board that 2.55 is the initial offer for a bridge contract and since PK hasn't even wanted a short term bridge contract Bergevin has no reason to change his 2.55 offer.

Until PK says he would be open to a 2 year deal why would Bergevin move off his initial offer? This scenario to me makes the most sense.

Stubbs has said Subban was willingly to sign a 2 year deal so long as he was compensated properly. Dreger has tweeted that Subban would likely accept a 2 year deal if it was 3.5m+

And he should never have offered such a lowball deal in the first place

No matter what happens during the negos, I just don't see Bergevin trading PK. It's just not in Bergie's DNA. He's a scout in his soul and he'll be the most patient guy with the young players that are drafted by the Habs.

Or you want it to be true so much that you take rumors for facts.

For what it's worth Dreger almost always specifies when things are merely rumors.

true, and it's also true that he's one of the most reliable guys out there.

but in the "hockey world" a reliable guy is still wrong more often than not.

So, to think this went from rumor to "confirmed" is foolish at best.

It could very well be true, but as of right now it's still just a rumor, not a fact.
