You do understand negotiations, right.

When one side is willing to compromise, the other tends to as well.

Bergevin sticking to his rumored initial offer is an indication that Subban is sticking to his initial offer as well.

The blame Bergevin only routine is tiring.

PK wanted a long term deal. In his recent interview, he said he'd be willing to agree to a bridge deal. He also said he's not breaking the bank or asking for anything crazy. Do I also have to say that, in the same interview, he said Bergevin didn't disagree with the comparable Meehan and PK used. Meanwhile, Bergevin is said to have not flinched a penny since May.

Everything points to Bergevin simply not being open to negotiation. He wants a short term deal at a cheap price, and isn't moving much from that.

You've been all over PK since the start of this, and just dismiss everything Bergevin related. It's always PK's camp.

Bergevin should stick to his guns and not allow Subban to make himself bigger than the franchise. Its a known fact that every player who has come out of a ELC has signed the "bridge" contract (ex. Pleks, Gorges, Paciorettyand Price). If he signs Subban long term than that sets a new standard and imagine what Desharnais or Gallagher or Galchenyuk will demand when its time for them to sign out of their ELC.

The way I see it Subban should except the contract, because he's not getting anything sitting at home and his status will stay the same. Come in show that you really do want to be part of this team and a Hab. Play your ass off, show the new management team your worth the money and who's to say Bergevin doesnt extend him this summer like he did Pacioretty. It seems as though Bergevin prefers to sign players before their contract ends, with Price and Subban he had no choice.

If one of the Gally's becomes as dominant as Subban is they will ask for a big long term contract regardless of what happens with Subban. If we have to go through this all over again with Gally then Bergevin needs to be fired now!

If MB holds firm Subban will likely eventually sign. But what happens then, it's quite likely that when Bergevin tries to extend him, Subban will say no he will go to arbitration and become a UFA as soon as he can.

Subban could just as easily show up tomorrow and say I've had it with your stupid ****. Trade me.

In fairness to Bergevin,

Unless he is a complete Pejorative Slur, he will learn from this mistake and not humiliate and denigrate every RFA from now on.

If he does this with every young player, the 29 other GMs will eventually learn to see the Montreal RFA class of any given summer as an all-you-can-eat buffet, and it will rain offersheets.

It's pathetic this black cloud has to hang over a promising (though easy) start to the season. The east is weak this year, with Subban we can actually surprise people instead of burning out Markov and Emelin immediately.

Are there any examples out there of a 2 year bridge contract that's 4 mil+?

I'm not sure, but there might be a simple reason for that.
Usually, when a GM thinks his young RFA player is worth 4M over 2years, he'll offer a little more but go long term because they feel it's well worth the risk.
That's exactly what we should be doing.

I hope you're right. But if he's still sticking to his guns he either doesn't think it's a mistake or he's letting his ego get in the way. Bad either way.

My under standing is tommorow pk will either accept the bridge or ask to be traded

From both a fan's POV and PK's, an offer sheet is the better option. Asking for a trade is giving Bergevin the power to decide where he will play next. Why should he do that?

Subban is a Free Agent that the Habs possibly do not want to re-sign. If that is true, he should act like a free agent. He says he likes it in Montreal, an offer sheet gives him the chance to pick another city and the money he is happy with; if Montreal matches, he gets the money he is happy with plus a city he likes. If Montreal does not match, he gets the money he is happy with plus a city he likes as well.

From the fans' point of view, an offer sheet puts a quicker end to this circus. If not matched,it will probably give the Habs more in return than a trade. However, there is a good chance the Habs will match the offer anyway, in which case we get PK back on the ice.

I don't trust MB to get a good return when trading a guy that he is seriously undervaluing. Besides, we have seen holdouts get traded before, and the trading team almost always loses.

Thankfully most posters on here are not in charge of contracts for the Habs or we would have a mess on our hands. Let MB work the CBA and give Subban a fair bridge contract. Dropping your pants is not a way to run a team under a salary cap.

Giving out a FAIR contract is not dropping your pants. It only appears to be so because the rookie GM has completely boxed himself in and not allowed wiggle room. It's a bad way to negotiate. And I say this having conducted hundreds of negotiations in my career.

You realize that a bridge contract is only 2 years. What happens after?
We have done nothing but offer bridge contracts, to everybody. That's why Price is now the 3rd best paid goalie in the NHL. That's why we're paying 4M for 6years to a stay at home Dman who's not physical.
To think bridge contracts are a necessity is just stupid.

So you think Subban is a 2.1 million dollar player for one year and a 2.9 million dollar man the next? Now we've unnecessarily set up a showdown with a palyer we're trying to build around for the future. And you think this is a good thing?

And you know, given some of the maddeningly stupid moves this organization has made over the years, I've actually wondered if some of the posters on here could actually do better. In many cases (such as this one or the Gomez trade that never should've happened) its hard to see how they could've done any worse.

Then PK better get used to watching the games on TV or ask for a trade or hope an offer sheet comes in.

If he asks for a trade, we're really ****ing ourselves over for the future for absolutely no reason.

Yet you seem to think this is a good thing. I don't understand you.

Right, solid management.

Hey, I have this kid who proved he could step in and effectively play on the top pairing. Problem with this dumb ass is he actually wants to play here for a long time, this idiot. On that note, let's trade him. Yup, sounds about right.

He can ask for a trade all he wants he is an RFA we stil essentially control his rights. He can demand what he wants doesn't mean he gets it. The 2.1 in the first year is a little low it should be 2.5 to 3 and year 2 should be about 3 to 3.5 max nothing more than that though.

I get the impression that he, and others, want PK signed to an unfairly low deal. Like they want him to not only sign the low-ball offer, but then have MB grab PK's head and rub his nose into the contract.

I'm on an infraction currently, but I'll say this: maybe they aren't insane, but they certainly do believe insane things about this situation.
