I like this trade a lot. IMO Addy wasn't a big impact first rounder and the 2 other '07s on the team (Crawford and Nansi) have played as good or better so it's not a huge loss. Maybe he blossoms we shall see. I also have heard he wasn't a big fan of being in OS.

In your small barn, Smith is will be massive. No one will want to go into the corners come playoff time. Nelson (NB) is very good but you have offence, Smith will be the shut down guy against top end teams and with late bday good chance he is back next year.

Lol...not a small ice surface...regulation all the way...building design makes it seem that way

I know for sure that most players don't feel that way. They are convinced that it is less than 200 feet long. I've even seen a coach run his team through special drills before a playoff series there, to get used to the 'shorter' ice surface.

I don't really have a comment because there's no easy way to know, but it's not just a myth amongst fans. It's a nice advantage either way.

Add the fact the boards are fastened to concrete abutments and do not give .

I feel better about the trade today then yesterday. Here's hoping for good things I am glad DD made a decision I know my self for sure and a few others have been giving some flak recently so its good to clear it up a bit. Let's keep the foot on the gas and go all in now may as well..

Just curious if anybody happens to know, Owen Sound was carrying 4 07 A cards which is the max, now that they have moved Addy they are down to 3. In theory, could they add another 07 on an A card to get back to 4 from this past year's draft? Not saying they will or should, just asking hypothetically if they can?

No Nico Addy still counts against Owen Sounds 2007s. The OHL rules are that when a player drafted in the 1st round is traded in the January trade period he counts against the team he was traded from four underages not the team he is traded to. As a result the Petes can have him and four other underages on their regular roster.

That's what I thought but wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for the response.

So Petes will be able to fit Brady Martin in no problem!!:laugh::laugh:

Interested to see how the new guys look this week. Here's hoping they make some impact. We should feel a bit better about our defensive end of the ice if nothing else

Doesn't appear to be any scratches tonight out of the ordinary. Tersigni in for Brennan. McCue starts with Goure and Burroughs. Smith slots in with Steen. George in net.

I would suspect Smith will be noticeable right away as he will eat minutes and I imagine his brand of hockey will be a stark contrast to the rest of the blue line lol. McCue starting with Goure and Burroughs will have a good opportunity to contribute right away as well. Personally, I really like that line combo as a starting point. Hopefully when Petrovsky draws back in they can reunite the Barlow - Guindon - Petrovsky line. That should be a solid top 6 barring any other adds.

Ideally, I think if they can get an upgrade on the right side of the blueline that would make a huge difference. Currently on the right it's Sedley, Steen and Rogers. The left side is looking pretty good now with Jordan, Smith and Petrovski comparably.

TBD on the open import slot but sounds like they are looking to fill that as well with a forward.

Great pick up by the Attack. One of the most sought after players in Smith at the deadline. I'm jealous. Wish the Rangers got him. Love the barn up there. Been to a few games. We even went in to a couple of exhibition games over the years when we were over in Owen Sound from our trailer at Oliphant. Beautiful area of southern Ontario.

That was a pretty sloppy game but the Attack come out on the right side of it tonight. Smith and McCue both made a positive first impression tonight I thought. Lets see if this group can get going on a bit of a run here and string some wins together. Hopefully the trade this week lights a fire.

Still one player at least will be added to tonight's line up....on paper I like what I see

On paper, I agree lol. For whatever reason they haven't been able to put it all together yet. I'm curious what buying pieces at the deadline does for the locker room. Does it motivate them to get it going in the right direction or do they continue to struggle and confound the fan base with a paper roster that should be a good team?

These additions will be positive for the group.

They may add another piece or two yet.

How did the new guys look?

I’m due to come out for a game and our direction as buyers has got me a bit excited. I really hope we add at least 1 more piece, likely an import. I dont want to see Dale half ass this buying approach either, you moved a big piece in Addy so just go for it. This will be the last year for a few of our top guys and you have to maximize having a guy like Barlow

It has to be, right? They've disappointed this season and then your GM takes a big swing and shows he still believes in them. That's got to do something to boost the group you would think. Best case scenario is it lights the fuse on the rocket ship lol.

They still have some pieces to use to bring in some additions so hopefully Dale can find another dance partner to make it happen.

I thought McCue was a pleasant surprise to me. He showed better than I was expecting and I think he may be a legit fit on the line with Goure and Burroughs. He's got a solid shot and the physical play was a nice compliment on that line. Couple more games together to build some chemistry would be nice.

I thought Smith was a little jumpy early, maybe trying a little too hard to get involved, but settled in nicely as the game progressed. He did a nice job boxing out and protecting the net. He also moves pretty well for his size which was nice to see.

If this is the end of the dealing by degray, this team isn't going anywhere. Ok give the new kid a game or two on the top line ., but he is a 3rd or 4th liner . A fortunate bounce off the glass for a tap in goal by Jordan, an opportunistic goal by barlow, (which when given a breakaway is deadly), a lucky deflction and an empty net goal. Other than those 4 plays, there was nofire, no jump. Erie is an 8th place team. If this is all he is doing, it will be another short playoff year. In his defence, I'm not sure what else he can do. If not for George , this would have been different game

I listened to Matt Hermiz pre game last night gotta do that more. In his talk with Coach he mentioned Sams hockey I.Q. He said Sam was asking him some very itelligent questions about our systems during the day.We also have to remember the new guys may have had a very light skate in Erie but thats it no real practice.
