He has played here. Has been playing in a decent league against men judging by his point totals last year I'm not sure how much he played. If he came here and played on a pretty good team and put up some decent #'s he could turn that into something. Worst case scenario he would go back to the DEL next year. Can't give more of a clue without saying the name.Who are we talking about here? Can I have a hint? lol

And we have a winner.Your prize pkg is in the mail LOL. I am kinda dreaming I have no idea if he would even be interested in staying over here and playing or not but it makes interesting thoughts.Does he play for Germany?
George won't play this season with the team even DD said that during the draft this season. They wanted him to play closer to evaluate his potential but DD said within the next couple seasons.Owen Sound

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the DEL has an u23 roster quota, so even if there's a better level for him, he will play. And can't imagine being close to home and being paid a professional wage is less appealing than playing in Owen Sound for $150 a week plus room and board. He has played here. As stated George will be out as far as tenders. IMHO Nick Chenard is the only guaranteed OA I have heard rumblings about Portokalis going to school but haven't seen any commitment. One fwd I notice you missed is 18 yr old Gavin Bryant a lock in my opinion. It depends on which Fantino shows up the one we saw in training camp and playoffs or the one we saw most of the regular season. If it's the latter he may find himself looking for somewhere else to play. There could be some very tough decisions for the few open spots on the roster.Owen Sound

I agree it is probably a long shot that he would come back here but the odds are probably better than Howard being here. I think it would depend on how many minutes he was playing there and if he thought playing his OA year here and putting up good numbers would translate into a pro contract making more than he would make in the DEL. Long shot but IMHO I feel Chenard is the only guaranteed OA I personally would like to find a couple upgrades for the other 2 spots.Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the DEL has an u23 roster quota, so even if there's a better level for him, he will play. He would be a dream addition though!
Couldn't have been more clear lol. Thanks. He has played here. Has been playing in a decent league against men judging by his point totals last year I'm not sure how much he played. And it's crystal clear to me that Josh Samanski is the only German player that is standing out against the U.S. I'm going to say that I don't see him coming to Owen Sound for his OA year. It is a nice pipe dream though.Couldn't have been more clear lol. Thanks.
That would certainly be a pipedream for sure... safe to say that ship has sailed a long time ago.And it's crystal clear to me that Josh Samanski is the only German player that is standing out against the U.S. I'm going to say that I don't see him coming to Owen Sound for his OA year. He would be an awfully nice addition. He's listed at 6'3" 201lbs on Germany's roster. Would add an element to the Attack line up that they don't have a lot of. I think everything depends on what his goals are with hockey. The DEL is a pretty decent pro league but pretty tough to advance from there into the NHL if that is the goal. He could potentially view the OHL as a launch into a pro contract in North America if that is his goal. Worst case scenario is he returns to the DEL after the season if it doesn't work out. Would have to pass on the allure of pro money in the DEL though. It is likely to his benefit that the world junior tournament is in the summer and he can showcase himself to potentially get a camp invite for September with an NHL organization. I would imagine any NHL interest would help in determine where he plays next year if it aligns with his personal goals. An AHL contract isn't out of the question due to his age and would still offer some pro money. And it's crystal clear to me that Josh Samanski is the only German player that is standing out against the U.S. I'm going to say that I don't see him coming to Owen Sound for his OA year. Well you know they say great minds think alike, right? lolWith regards to Samanski, it all depends on what his goal is. Maybe he is content playing in the DEL making the money he is. His stats would suggest he does not play a lot at this point, but he's still relatively young. However, if he is interested in a pro contract in North America it would make all kinds of sense for him to come back to Owen Sound for this year. Yes it would be a huge difference financially only getting the 800.00 per month OA stipend, but exposure while playing on what should be a great team would be much better. You know every single NHL team will be either watching every Owen Sound game this year either live or by video bc of Barlow alone. And he can always return to the DEL the following year if he doesn't get a contract offer. Just some thoughts

And just to muddy the water a bit he has one year in the league if by some miracle he came back and played his O/A year that would give him 2 yrs education money if he wanted school. Pretty sure Universities would line up to have a player like Josh in there program. Like I say probably a pipe dream but just do one of the mock lineups on here but add his name in the fwd group. Can you say exciting!!! I also worked with a young guy who was friends with him at school and he is a smart cookie so school might interest him. With regards to Samanski, it all depends on what his goal is. Agreed, JS would definitely bring a different outlook on the forward group if he did return. And just to muddy the water a bit he has one year in the league if by some miracle he came back and played his O/A year that would give him 2 yrs education money if he wanted school. However, I wouldn't count on it, with Josh playing professionally in Europe. I stand by my belief that if Samanski was in DD plans then he would've been in the lineup last season, when the team returned from Covid shutdown. He remained in Germany.
So I think the team will move forward without Josh and continue to build on what will be an exciting core of talent returning to the lineup. If by some miracle he returns to the lineup then that would pose an issue in the import situation.
As far as my understanding and knowledge on the situation the minute Josh suited up for the German national team he had selected his nationality and that he would be playing in Germany this season. And before someone says we'll he is technically a dual-citizen I'm not 100% sure that the CHL would allow him to play as a domestic player if he was playing for the German national team.
But will see what shakes out and who knows what will happen when training camp kicks off in a few weeks. Maybe he does come back to Owen Sound if so that would be a piece that would give us an slight edge in the forward group.
Edmonds played in Sweden after drafted by Kingston, his home address when drafted was NB, ON.he already played in the league and would be a non import, he is no different then the kid who played in kingston last year, edmonds, he signed before his overage season (both did) and are eligible to be non import over age players.
I just don't see him returning for an OA season this year. Regardless of his country status.he already played in the league and would be a non import, he is no different then the kid who played in kingston last year, edmonds, he signed before his overage season (both did) and are eligible to be non import over age players.

Typically players who play over in Europe unless their NHL Drafted don't usually return to the OHL after already playing in a professional league in Europe. If this was a year ago maybe, but with NHL team owning his rights to push the kid to come back why would he?
He obviously believes he has a better chance at a career in Germany then coming back for an OA season in the OHL.
It was a fair topic of discussion. Certainly somebody I would imagine most Attack fans had potentially overlooked for next year, I know I did. Even if it's unlikely he returns to Owen Sound it's fun to talk possibilities. The Attack obviously had hoped for a return last season as they had left him on the scratches list for a long time at the start of last season. They would take him back in a heart beat if he wanted to come back. I'm sure Dale has at least reached out to have a discussion about the possibility.Lol Wow I opened a can of worms here. My apologies to all. I was just hoping or dreaming about what could be with a player like Josh in the lineup. That would be like making a blockbuster trade but not giving up anything. I do realize that it's a pipedream but hey we all have pipedreams about winning the lottery right.
