The blueline is a bit limited. There's not really any defensive stalwarts that you can look to. I like Steen but with him being out of the lineup that last couple weeks it might be asking a bit much to throw him into that role right away. I'd like to see Steen/Petrovski/Sawyer lean on guys a bit in the corners and in front of the net. They haven't really had anybody to take note of on the ice this year or maybe cause some hesitation to go into the corner with the way Woolley did last season. I think as you pointed out, it's going to take buy in from everybody on the ice to play solid team defense.I've only really watched your team since the deadline when my favorite Front was sent there, so I might be a bit biased.
I think that your lock down d man is Steen if he is able to play, the other 2 you mentioned seem to be out of position many times. I've never seen a Dman lay down on the ice and lose his stick as much as 24. I think an overall team committment to Dzone is the only way.
This also holds true with your goalies. Limiting shots on these guys is the key, If it were me I'd have your wingers up a step or two higher on their Dmen. They are very active on the blueline and the less room you give them, the better. I'm not too confident in the goalies, they are both big, so I hope everything hits them.
My hope is that Stewart, with the way he has been playing will be allowed to step up and be that playoff surprise. He is physical, not intimidated and can make room for himself and his linemates. He does have to continue to be disciplined as he has been lately.
Good luck to you guys.
Guys like Stewart, Hookey and Lawrence should look to finish their checks and assert themselves physically. If they can do that without sitting in the sin bin they have a chance to wreak havoc on the London D. Stewart has run a little hot at times and got himself into trouble. If he can ride that line and play his style of hockey he can certainly make an impact in the series. He's definitely a presence every time he steps on the ice.
