He's looking real good tonight. Letting a few guys get by him on the rush, but nothing that leads to any concern.

I continue to be amazed at his calm steady approach in the offensive zone. Its very Duncan Keith/ Kris Letang esque. He's not flashy, but he makes the quick smart choice everytime.

It seems like his open ice game is a little ahead of his play along the boards. Anyone feel differently?

One play that he was beaten back to the net, he churned all the way back and then sealed his man off from getting back out in front of Portillo. When he does get beat on a play, he uses that fluid skating to get back into the play and all of that size to keep opponents tied up. He moves so well in every zone - that four-way mobility is just top notch.

He had one pinch that he got caught up ice - recovered and sealed well on the backcheck - and one mishandle that Portillo bailed him out on. And he had a pile of primaries, strong, simple plays and taking away time and space with his reach/size. He continues to move on the blueline with the puck - he's not static back there and that creates lanes that he can exploit (and did). Love it. Can't wait for him to arrive.

Weird. I thought he was only allowed secondaries because he’s not Hughes.

I also thought Beecher left. Jesus, Michigan must be absolutely stacked even more than I thought they were.

Beecher was recovering from injury.

Hughes has flash in his game - he is a Hughes and it shows with how dynamic he is attacking with the puck on his stick. Edgework, stickhandling, creating options out of raw ability? Hughes does all of that. Jersey's got a fine player there.

That said... I love what Power could become.

I don’t deny that he has flash, and probably more offensive ability. I just don’t put much stock in to “primary v. secondary” assists, especially from D. There’s three things I want from my D. Good in their zone without the puck, good at getting it out of their zone with the puck without it being a dump out, and hitting the net in the offensive zone.

And I just figured Beecher aged out.

So, what's the assumption here? Do we think he'll be in Buffalo next year? Im thinking third pairing minutes with Pysyk to start.

I haven't been able to watch him play, unfortunately.

It has to be NCAA Championship or bust for this group. Beniers, Johnson, Power, Hughes, Portillo, and more. Absolutely insane collegiate hockey. I'm going to start watching a few games closer to the tournament.

He is def in the NHL next year. Is ready now frankly... played against men in the WC and team Canada got better as he received more minutes (I know it is a small sample - he has the skills/size to keep up and excel). He will probably start with third pairing responsibility, but, don't be surprised if he quickly earns more and more trust from the coaches and ends the year with 20+minutes/game.
