Seeing late picks, +25 Mesar, Beck, Hutson can see the future. Anybody with any common sense anyway. Load Hughes up with picks I'd say. Keep continuous flow coming in system.

Hughes traded any vets worth a good return at last year's TDL - and got three 1sts (including Barron) and three 2nds (including Heineman).

We'll see how many 1sts and 2mds he gets going forward. I have Monahan, Edmundson, and Savard penciled in for 3 more 1sts. Maybe Anderson, Dvorak, and Drouin each get us a 2nd?

But Timmins was hot early on in his tenure. We'll see if Lapointe-Brobov under HuGo guidance can keep it up... hughes did seem very involved in the Slaf selection at least...

We drafted a lot of absolute stinkers on defense under him, especially in the first round. Not always his fault (Juulson was never the same after his injury), but Guhle looks like the first first round defenseman we drafted under Timmins to be able to potentially live up to his draft pick. Which to his credit was a good one. Well, besides Sergachev...

Mailloux is a total wildcard at this point although he has more tools than Tinordi at least.
Maybe try listing them? There were quite a few later picks who ended up close but not quite there. Tinordi was a TSN pick, one of those depressing MB picks where they went with the media instead of the scouts, and there were some injuries. I can’t think of too many guys in the first five rounds who had no hope. On the other hand they traded up to draft some of the no hopers.

I don't think he will trade Ed or Savard. We have a very young defensive core and you still need to keep some Vet on the team. If Drouin stay healthy and have a good season. I can see a second or third round pick for him. We can also take a one year cap dump for a draft pick.

Yeah I don't see Eddy and Savard moving this year. I was talking about over the next couple years.

But Xhekaj, Guhle, and Harris are making their pitch to lock down the left side, which makes it less difficult to trade Eddie sooner rather than later, because there's still Matheson and you need to get the rookies ice time to develop. I'd lean toward taking the 1st while it's there and looking to get an experienced RD as mentor.

It's too bad Subban, Arber Xhekaj's idol, was not deemed to be a good mentor and locker room presence. Whether that was a correct or incorrect assessment a vet like Subban would allow us to move Eddy, and potentially bring in another draft pick at TDL 2023 or 2024 for him...

Barrie with the big comeback in the third to get the W, from 2-5 with 8 minutes left to 6-5

I think he will add 4 more Mesar, Beck, Hutson types next deadline. If we get him another first??

Seems like he has good nose for talent. Can tell big upgrade in our drafting. Only seen him one game but Mesar the wheels and hands seems like he is responsively defensively. For guy his speed his hockey sense has to be thru roof. Hutson a Krug type. Beck could be something special.

If I'm Hugo I'm keeping Savard but trading Edmundson by TDL or summer at latest. I'm fine with the extra depth to help ease the rookie LDs into the league this year but in 2022-2023 they need to play full time in my opinion:

Guhle
Matheson
Xhakej

Keep Savard. Play Harris on RD and hopefully Barron is ready for the last spot.

It seems like when Eddy and Matheson are back, this will be the dcore:

Matheson - Eddy
Guhle - Savard
Xhekaj - Harris
Kovacevic/Wideman

Yeah, if Eddy can get us that 1st round pick, I say take it!

Even if Barron isn't ready next season, we can get a vet in the summer. And Kovacevic and Wideman can be stop gaps this year - they're good for the tank.

Hughes would really be balsy if he moved both Edfy and Savard by this TDL each for 1sts +. That would leave us with essentially the dcore we're giving now, with Matheson swapped in for Savard.

Oh if Edmundson plays RD I'm down to keep him. Didn't think of that.

I wouldn't mind getting a vet for next year either. Barrie would be perfect if Edmonton would be willing to swap for Hoffman

How bad was Eddy’s injury? He’s been out for a while.

This will make it hard to trade him - but is also the reason I'd take a 1st if it became available. He can't be a good mentor if he's always on the sidelines. But hopefully he comes back strong and his healthy now all the way through to the deadline.

I find Savard has good wheels this year and would not mind he stuck around. I also think we have not seen the best of the rookies, including Kovacevic.
