The truth reflects in the drafts and if you think the Q gets snubbed for some reasons, thats false, teams go for BPA. I think the gap has tighten up over the years, but OHL remains hands down the better league. The Q is closer to the WHL but its hard to compare since the WHL is more defensively oriented while producing an impressive amount of blueliners for the NHL.The truth is in the eye of the beholder, I guess
Bob Hartley on BPM just now — looking like the Habs got the steal of the draft in Beck.
We might actually have a management team now that can develop players as pros. Dominating an inferior league doesn't necessarily translate into success, training and practicing with pros can go a long way if the prospect's development is put ahead of Ws.They have to do the right thing let Beck develop his offensive game in the OHL. If he's as good as people are saying he should dominate the OHL the way Suzuki did in his last O season and gain experience in the WJHC.
I would give Beck a game or 2 in the NHL as a reward for his development and then promptly send him down.
For a player who has yet to establish himself offensively, its imperative that he does so in a league of his peers getting top line minutes. He won't get that in Montreal. Its imperative he plays top minutes in all situations and in particular in an environment where he can experiment offensively. We might actually have a management team now that can develop players as pros. Experimenting things offensively that do not translate to a pro game are of little value. Having access to state of the art training and skills coaches and testing yourself against pros is very valuable but as I said that doesn't work if they're playing vets over him to go for Ws, wouldn't keep him around to play on the 4th lineFor a player who has yet to establish himself offensively, its imperative that he does so in a league of his peers getting top line minutes. Its a no-brainer. If the Habs brass are serious about developing players, Beck will be returned to the O.
That's incredibly short-sighted. The best development for a young player is playing time. An 18 year old expressing himself offensively in a junior league is exactly what is needed for Beck. He hasn't proven anything to date. We don't want Beck to be an offensively challenged 3 / 4C. He has potential to be a Danault type player and needs to develop his offense via playing time.Experimenting things offensively that do not translate to a pro game are of little value. I will trust this Habs mgmt team to do what is right and no issue if he goes down or stays up
Did Danault already reached his peak ? He had a wonderful season in LA last year and he can easily repeat or do better.Marc Dumont was certainly high enough on Beck other day. Couple days ago on 690 he said Beck reminded him of Danault at his peak.
Kidney is not that great. It won't be easy to make the team.
I think these 11 forwards are a lock or close to a lock to make the team: Bedard, Roy, Kidney, Stankoven, Gaucher, Ostapchuk, Othmann, Guenther, Savoie, Johnston, Bolduc. It doesn't include Wright and McTavish who I think will be in the nhl.
So only 3 spots left. Beck will be competing with Geekie, Dach, Firkus, Fantili, l'heureux, Robertson, etc.
Beck is great on faceoffs and a strong 2-way player, which should increase his chance of getting a job in the bottom 6 or as an extra.
I never said the Q was better than the OHL or WHL. I simply pointed out that the goals output in the OHL was higher, and thus, one cannot claim that it's easier to score in the 'Q.The truth reflects in the drafts and if you think the Q gets snubbed for some reasons, thats false, teams go for BPA. I will be proud when hockey Quebec and the Q do a better job at developing better our young talents. Just a few yrs ago they had a total moron at the head of the Midget AAA, we all know him since he is working for RDS.
The Pizza Man had great playoff during our playoff run. What I rememberDid Danault already reached his peak ? He had a wonderful season in LA last year and he can easily repeat or do better.

If Beck could develop a better shot, he could be something really special. He’s already elite face off and defensive center (for his age) and adding that element to his offensive game could make him a star player. Hope he spends a lot of time in junior shooting tue puck like they’ve asked him to.
Way too much emphasis being put on development in the OHL. They play 68 games, if he's playing 20 minutes a game that's less than 24 hrs total playing time for the entire season. Again wouldn't keep him up to play 4th line minutesThat's incredibly short-sighted. The best development for a young player is playing time. You can have the best player development coaches in the NHL and Beck playing 10 mins a game will stunt his growth.
This management team is smart and will send him back to the OHL. Its a given.
Agreed. He needs to turn it into a weapon. He has a good shot he just needs to use it more
Sounds like Danault to meHe looks good but I'd expect him to be more of a middle six guy production wise vs a true 2nd liner.
That being said if he ends up a 40-45pt centre who wins all the faceoffs that would be fantastic.
Needs more accuracy when he needs to shoot fast under pressure. He can pick corners only when he has time. That can be developed though. He has a good shot he just needs to use it more
I’ve heard he’s been working on it with a skill coach already because his shoot was a clear weakness. Will most likely never be great but that’s fine.Needs more accuracy when he needs to shoot fast under pressure. He can pick corners only when he has time. That can be developed though.
Honestly I would keep Beck instead of Armia, Hoffman, Byron...
I always hate to jump the gun for fear of turning into an overconfident hawker like David Pagnotta. He really does have that Ryan O’Reilly vibe going on.
We are long overdue for a 2nd round slam dunk forward prospect, maybe Beck is finally that guy.
