The Petes no longer have Liam Sztuska. We was waived and is now playing for Shawnigan in the QMJHL. The Petes recently traded for Gavin Bryant who is expected to be in the lineup next week. They now have four overage forwards. I expect Ryder MacIntyre to be on the move.

Do you expect that to be the case even if they remain in the division lead? The same kind of conversations are being had in the Soo, where they have a good shot at a home playoff spot, but kind of need to sell.
The Rangers have already began the process by moving Rehkopf. I can see them continuing the sell off but it wouldn’t surprise me if they only moved Andonovski and held onto the OA’s. It’ll depend on apparent saturated OA market.
That's perhaps true for a more middle tier guy like Swick, but the elite OA's will always garner a huge price because there's only a couple of them. Not to dismiss your argument, but we hear the same thing every year and the elite NHL drafted guys don't see an OA discount at all.
Dylan Wakely already went for a promising 2023 first round pick and 2 other picks. Guys like Owen Allard and Brady Stonehouse are almost certainly going to match or exceed that return, with the former being a Team Canada junior caliber player. The same could be true for other top OA's like Karabela, Smith, McCoy, Delic, or Misaljevic, depending on what kind of seasons they have and whether they are available or not.
I see Brampton and Kingston both looking to add two OA'S, (one being a goalie for the latter). Brantford, Sarnia, and Saginaw have opportunities for big upgrades on their current situations. Oshawa and London both have guys off to really disappointing starts, which has to be a concern. Then, of course, there are injuries. There will certainly be market outside of Brampton.

Upgrade over the 3 guys they have. Oshawa will depend on what happens with Roorebeck. Kingston could upgrade on Heyes and Flint on Smith. Maybe Saginaw upgrades on Forgione but they lack picks
Brampton probably wants 2 guys and maybe Kingston as well if Lalonde plays to career norms. I think Brantford and London may want to add, depending on performance of their existing guys. Maybe Sarnia if they want to make a run. Then there's injuries, of course.
Brantford has 4 quality guys already now with Hamara back don’t see them adding anyone else. Cant see sarnia making any type of run it’s just not the year for them I think they come back down to earth eventually a bit and end up 7-8 seed.
What's the story with Bujold? He hasn't played this year. For a team that's making a run, it wouldn't be uncommon for a guy like Lavoie to move for an upgrade. The Greyhounds did it last year, for example.
I didn't proclaim that he will get more, but he could if he has a good season. The same player will often go for more at the deadline and Stonehouse brings a more well rounded game with good scoring touch to the table. Someone will pay big for him.

Not sure but if he’s back then they may just cut Lavoie for Bujold. They paid a decent price to bring Lavoie in last year
Wakely was the top OA available this year. Allard and Swick are among the many next best OA forwards potentially available, but maybe not as pricy as some OA defensemen. Stonehouse has value too as I believe he play both LW & RW effectively.
Canada's best hockey minds consider Allard the better player, but I can see your side if a team is more focused on our offense than a 2-way guy. Allard is more like an Owen Beck that didn't get the proper recognition as a late bloomer.

Wakely had 30 more points last season than Allard has in his entire OHL career. I didn’t find Owen nearly as impressive post WJC as I did earlier in the year. All fanbases over value their players and the Soo is no exception. They were raving about Kostov last year and at 18 he’s still a slow footed 3rd-4th line OHL player with minimal offensive upside and a penchant for needless penalties.

Personally, I think Wakely is/was the best OA forward available this year. I doubt a better one would come available.
There may be some players with different intangibles that teams may value more than others and some of those players have been highlighted here already so I won’t mention names. But, OA acquisitions are typically used to fill gaps in rosters, especially when a team has two OAs that fill the same role. We will see a team move out an OA that another team would find very valuable. So it is more about right fit than pure best player available in most cases.
We will definitely see some OA’s swap teams. D’Amato is a pretty decent player but if Oshawa wants to compete, they’d move him and bring in Smith without a doubt since Smith fills a void that D’Amato cannot fill.
I think Brampton is more likley to acquire a player with more leadership ability. A player that more inspires the team to push forward. I think they lack that true captain. If a kid like Logan Morrison were available, I think they’d be all over that type of player.
Teams that are looking for specific players will pay big for those players, because BIG PRICE for an OA is still costing much less than acquiring the same player as a 19 year old.

Flint is loaded at RW this season though. I'd be really happy with Kostov on the wolves 3rd line, and top six his final two seasons. Kostov would probably be good for Kingston, Niagara, Erie too.
He’s at least being more effective defensively this year and did a nice job breaking up a few plays Saturday night. I’m sure Flint would move him in a package for the right player. Sudbury got anybody they’re looking to trade?
I watched Kostov with Flint and he's just not the same player at all. It's really inexplicable, hard to say what happened with him.
I didn’t focus on him in a Greyhounds jersey but I didn’t notice his skating was a bit weak or how slow his foot speed was until he showed up and played games for Flint. Doesn’t distribute the puck well, his shot isn’t anything special he’s only ok along the boards and up until recently he would just take bad penalties. Allard will net assets at the deadline but if he continues to play like he did post WJC it will dampen the return. Possibilities for Schenkel are limited but if someone ends up needed an OA goalie I think he’ll net a solid return as far as OA goalies go.

Stonehouse was invisible during the playoffs last year, just as he was the year prior - - not sure why a championship contender would overpay for an undersized perimeter player who disappears when the games actually matter.
I’d be willing to wager my signed game used Beckett Sennecke jersey that any trade for Stonehouse or Allard will not come anywhere close to netting the return that North Bay got for Wakely.
There will not be a lot of OA capable RWs available, so I could see the return for Stonehouse exceed that of Bryant. But if Misaljevic becomes available, Stonehouse could have the value of an OA goalie.

No, but I’m sympathetic to their plight.
Belleville was a good junior hockey town - - light years better than Hamilton, Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Burlington or Markham could ever dream of being. They got a really bad deal.
If I were to buy an OHL team, of course my first choice would be Oshawa - - especially if the current kook ends up following through on his laughable threat to relocate to Pickering.
Failing that, I’d definitely consider buying a floundering franchise like Brampton or Flint and moving it to Belleville.

I agree that neither would net the Wakely return but keep in mind that by the time the playoffs rolled around, Stonehouse was playing with one arm. He had offseason shoulder surgery and is finally set to return this week. I wouldn’t look at his stats for the 2nd half and playoffs last year. The previous playoff he played mostly on a shut down line with Tolnai as the centre. He wasn’t out there on the Powerplay and was mostly used to agitate and shadow other offensive lines. In fairness, that would be his role this coming playoff as well. Agitate and and be the energy guy. Any offence from him int he playoffs is a bonus. Teams aren’t acquiring Stonehouse withthe primary objective to score goals. There are other guys that do that. A team like Brampton doesn’t need scorers. They need some leadership and players with that agitating style because they don’t have any of it outside of Leskovar. I could see them being one of the teams in on Stonehouse because he is the type of player they lack.
If a team wants an energy guy that can score, maybe Van Steensel is a bette option. But, IMO, Stonehouse brings more agitation and in a seven game series, that is the type of player that can swing a series if he can get under the skin of the opposition. Stonehouse can absorb a lot of punishment after the whistle in front of the net. That can wear down the opposition and distract them. He has a face even a mother would punch. Perfect for playoffs.
