15 in his last 23

Kind of insane to think that were it not for the cancelled season, the lockout shortened season, and the covid shortened seasons, Ovechkin would very likely already have beaten the record. Hell, he'd probably have finished his career with over 1000 goals

To be fair, Ovi has been a big part of their recent surge for the Caps but their youth has really driven the play of this team as has the incredible play of Charlie Lindgren aka Chuckie Sideburns. Young cats like Connor McMichael, Hendrix Lapierre, Ivan Miroschnichenko, Alexsei Protas, and Beck Malenstyn have been terrific and their skating has injected much needed speed into the Caps’ aging lineup.

Also to be fair to Sid, he’s had an unbelievable season and his teammates have let him down. The Pens pissed away a terrific season by Crosby which has to be frustrating.

Yeah, idk about the Caps D prospect pool, but the forwards look LEGIT.

Lapierre, Miro were legit top 10-15 talents that dropped due to mostly health concerns. McMichael has an NHL name. Cristall and Leonard from last year's draft.

Im really curious to see what the post Ovechkin era looks like. It might not be as terrible as it seemed like only a few years ago.

49 goals away…

Then you should be equally disappointed Gretzky has the record. Not much different.
Can you explain why I should be disappointed that Gretzky holds the record?

How is there not much difference?

Keep in mind, I'm a Canucks fan. I have zero interest in defending Gretzky, lol.

OV scored, Caps lost and there is a record for that too!
OV scored most goals in history for a player in his team's losses (Wayne is only #15 :))

I am actually disappointed that Gretzky has the record and not Howe.
- Howe was a better goal-scorer than Gretzky, and Gretzky benefitted so much from having peaked in the most high-scoring period
- Howe in fact still has a legit claim to being the best goal-scorer ever (along with Ovechkin and Bobby Hull)
- Howe is so much underappreciated as a goal-scorer. If you ask people for their top5 goal-scorers ever, so many of them will not even mention Howe (yet somehow Bossy will appear on the list)
- Howe would have had the record, but he left for WHA, and his WHA goals count for 0 - and it isn't Howe's fault NHL paid s**t to their stars pre-WHA
