Why bring up Matthews who is in his prime in a different scoring environment and instead pick someone that played during OVs prime? Players like Iginla, Kovalchuk, and Jagr have around the same efficiency.

Ovy has a better shot, it allows him to score from a greater distance than other players, it also gives him possibility to have more shots in a game. Other players are heavily dependent on their playmaking centers to get closer. That explains better effeciency. Only problem with that, closer areas are more defended and your chances are limited in the game. So the only way for Matthews to get the same number of shots as Ovy, is to start to shoot from distance, but his efficiency will drop a lot.

No, he perks right up when scoring opportunities arise. He really has looked old/slow/coasting tonight though.

He’s 37 years old playing 2 NHL games in a 24 hour window. Fatigue is definitely a factor

Ovi is trying to pass Gretzky as quickly as possible he will score plenty more goals on goalies and empty nets till then.
This is more on Bettman and the owners for the lockouts and then outside measures like covid that he needs empty net goals to do this
