Why bring up Matthews who is in his prime in a different scoring environment and instead pick someone that played during OVs prime? Players like Iginla, Kovalchuk, and Jagr have around the same efficiency. Is he? The end of this season will be the end of Matthews 7th season. If he gets I think it is 42 goals, his raw total through first 7 years will exceed Ovechkin despite many less minutes, much less PP and about 1000 less shots. That’s like one guy going to work for 3 - 3.5 days per week while the other goes 5 days only to produce the same amount of widgets. Same holds true with Gretzky.
Don’t see any good argument for “takes a lot of shots to produce same result”. Certainly wouldn’t be my focus if I was picking a sniper on a battlefield.
It’s interesting but questionable. Like Iverson.
Is Matthews shooting against terrible goalies? It’s going to take him roughly 1000 less shots to have the same amount of goals through their first 7 seasons.
Matthews is more close fighter than a sniper.Don’t see any good argument for “takes a lot of shots to produce same result”. Certainly wouldn’t be my focus if I was picking a sniper on a battlefield.
Certainly didn't look old on 801.Does he always look this... old?
No, he perks right up when scoring opportunities arise. He really has looked old/slow/coasting tonight though.Certainly didn't look old on 801.

No idea if that's normal for him. Could be sick, tired, sick and tired.![]()
He hasn't been slow or coasting, but he had, last I checked, the most ice-time tonight due to the Caps PP opportunities. Even more than the D-men.No, he perks right up when scoring opportunities arise. He really has looked old/slow/coasting tonight though.

I personally would rather score on a goalie for a record goal.Out of respect for Ovie, the Jets need to pull their goalie right about now.
Don’t they want to make history ?
He’s 37 years old playing 2 NHL games in a 24 hour window. Fatigue is definitely a factor
empty net goal for passing Howe ugh...
tying goal was a great shot but not the way I'd want to pass for sure
