Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Countdown to 894 (Continued)

Well, no goals against teams that he scored season saving game winners (Canucks and Flames) in March 2024. A little bit sad, but there are so many teams he didn`t score last season and can do it now

Gretzky would have a 1000 plus goals in his sleep if he wanted. He just was busy racking up 160 assist seasons. people quickly get too cocky and forget who 99 was.

Ovechkin would literally crush Gretzky with one arm behind his back like a plastic water bottle. Nobody forgets who gretzky was. Ovechkin is just the better goal scorer , the greatest of all time in fact.


Gretzky can keep his other 276 records or whatever it is lol

I think the era from the lockout to the early 2010s was more physical then the 80s and 90s. The game had become much faster, average player's skating ability had become far better, and the rules were still quite lenient. It wasn't until the mass concussions and rules changes when the hitting toned down, and of course the emphasis on smaller, faster, more skilled players who don't play physical much followed. Don't mistake the presence of roided up goons and dirty players for physicality.

And whoever thinks that Ovechkin would be bullied in the 80s and 90s is nuts lol, he would be the one bullying others.

No doubt. At his peak he was a mix of MacKinnon and Brady Tkachuk.

I'm not sure what would kill more of my brain cells more quickly—reading this post or wrapping my lips around the exhaust pipe of an 80s-era truck. Probably comparable.

Gretzky stayed a step ahead of most of that stuff for the same reason he stayed a step ahead of defenses and became the highest scoring player in history.

If it were a simple matter of whacking him the same way they did with Mario, or kneeing him the way they did with Orr, then that’s exactly what they would have done.

Though to be fair it did help that he had Messier as a teammate and not an opponent.
