Anyone doubting Ovi's ability to keep up with the "physical" 80s and 90s clearly never watched him play for the first ten years of his career. Probably the most athletic and physically imposing player in the entire league

I think the era from the lockout to the early 2010s was more physical then the 80s and 90s. The game had become much faster, average player's skating ability had become far better, and the rules were still quite lenient. It wasn't until the mass concussions and rules changes when the hitting toned down, and of course the emphasis on smaller, faster, more skilled players who don't play physical much followed. Don't mistake the presence of roided up goons and dirty players for physicality.

And whoever thinks that Ovechkin would be bullied in the 80s and 90s is nuts lol, he would be the one bullying others.
