Ovechkin would be up to 11 fifty goal seasons by now if not for two shortened seasons (he was easily on pace for 50 goals in the lockout-shortened 2013 season, and the COVID-shortened 2020 season). And this was in a lower scoring environment than most of the players on this list.

Some of the milestones this legend has gotten this year:
-> Most 50 goal seasons in league history
-> Most powerplay goals in league history
-> 3rd all time in goals
-> Most goals in a season by a 36 year old player or older

A couple records he’s likely to break still to go:
-> Most top-5 goal finishes in league history
-> Most goals in a season by a 34 year old player or older (Ovi has the record for 34 year old players at 48, and Bucyk has the 35 year old players record at 51)

Absolutely remarkable.

people call Lebron James a loser because he lost to 5 all stars lineup and carried his entire team for 3 rounds alone.

No, they called LeBron a loser because he checked out against the Magic in 2009 Eastern Conference Finals, quit against the Celtics at the end of his first Cavs run in 2010, and had a meltdown against the Mavs in 2011.

For the most part, people recognized the greatness of the Warriors squad and don’t knock him for any of those particular Finals losses, but let’s also not forget that other than Durant being added after the first two Finals the Cavs and Warriors played, the Warriors were built from the ground up through the draft, whereas LeBron cultivated his own teams and situations, and generally leaves a team where he cant flex his control any longer (Riley and the Heat being the prime example). The Warriors beat LeBron pre-Durant and were a Draymond Green suspension away from doing it back to back.

LeBron is great, but as someone who has followed his career and the league long before he showed up, his flaws are really simple to pick to pieces. The media narrative of him being a consensus #2 is baloney to anyone who knows the game and it’s history deeply.

As for the thread, Ovechkin pots 50 again and reaches 90 points for the first time since 2009-2010. Terrific to see.

Making the bold assumption that McDavid/Connor/Kaprizov don't outscore Ovechkin by 8+ goals over the last few games, Ovechkin will finish 4th (or higher) in goals for the 13th time in his career. This is more than anyone else in NHL history (going back to 1926-27, when the NHL absorbed its rival leagues). Yes, even more than Gordie Howe.

Yes, this is a cherry-picked stat, but still very impressive. (Think about all the great goal-scorers who aren't even on the list - Bure, Hull, Iginla, Kovalchuk, Geoffrion, Yzerman, Kurri, etc).
