The awards voters were confused about which position he played, so some of them voted for him at LW (where he played most of his career), and some voted for him at RW (which is where coach Adam Oates made him play that season).

It was 2013, the year he won the Hart. 133 people (correctly) voted for him at RW. 45 people (incorrectly) voted for him at LW. One person apparently didn't vote for him at all. Had everyone voted for Ovechkin at the correct position, Taylor Hall would have picked up a 2nd team all-star nod. I remember the NHL quietly released the voting results right before the Canada Day / 4th of July long weekend. I think they were embarrassed by the result.

I don't think it's really a career accomplishment for Ovechkin. It just means the voters didn't follow the Capitals closely enough to realize that Ovechkin changed positions.

Witnessing 800 goals in this day and age is insane. We are witnessing so much historic talent at the same time right now.

Also, to echo previous sentiments, not giving this its own thread is genuinely insane. 3rd player to ever score 800 and it gets tacked onto a milestone thread that was already 90 pages long? Truly crazy. What is thread worthy if not this, mods?

It should just be C, W, D, G.

RD and LD isn't differentiated. Why should RW/LW?

Not having longevity is generally outside of a players control. Their body breaks down, injuries take their toll or players lack fitness.

The fact that Ovi has remained as steady of a scorer for as long as he has cements him as the greatest scorer to ever play the game. If your debate rests on coulda's and woulda's you've already lost.

Ovi will stand alone at the top of the goalscorers peak soon. The only way to beat him, is to beat him.
This, it's still funny seeing the haters trying to diminish what OV has done

I personally like it all in one place. It's a lot easier for those of us with not much time throughout the week to find all the relevant discussions. Having a separate thread for 800, then a separate thread tomorrow for when he ties Howe, and then an additional thread 3 days from now when he beats Howe, is just messy and potentially easy to miss.

I sincerely don't understand your objection. This isn't a generic goal-scoring thread. It's a thread dedicated to one thing: Alex Ovechkin's pursuit of the all-time scoring record. It's been tracking the story of Ovi's progress from about 750 goals to the celebration as he passes 800.

I agree – we're witnessing history. IMO, the point of this thread is to pay tribute to it.

This is ridiculous, all 800!

In the summertime around the DMV when sports are dead our local sports network will play all his goals ... nice surprise when your sitting at the bar and youve been watching antique car auctions and then the "All Goals Scored by Ovechkin" comes on. Its about 2 hours of Ovie scoring goals.

^^ cool 2 min goal montage ESPN put out today

thanks to last night, Ovechkin has no seasons under 20 goals, only other player I can think of who did the same is Mike Bossy
